I haven't heard it in a while, but from memory it's one of his more interesting scores -- more within the chamber drama scoring mode he does well.

Check out the track titles! Carter is trying to be Horner on some of them! Its hilarious! biggrin
My favorite: "At Bedtime A Child Asks About Death"

Bump in case anyone missed this the first time. IMO these are some of the funniest track titles anyone's done in a long time. Burwell is on record as thinking Twilight is ridiculously melodramatic and absurd (or something to that effect) and it's hilarious how his track titles are (like his music) playing the drama so perfectly straight, as if this was actually an epic drama.

    Here are the track titles
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I thought they were funny too but i wonder if they were indeed put like this on purpose. Maybe some album or studio producer is THAT stupid to be actually serious about those. ? wink

The "Something Terrible" cue is talking about the music for sure wink

The funniest of them all is "Sparkles At Last" whoever came up with this is genius : biggrin

You would have known that if you read my review wink

And, D - I still think you're letting your hatred of the movies cloud your opinion of the score. Judging by your comments anyone would think it was one of the worst scores ever written!

I really didn't like it my friend, and it counts for all the previous Burwell's scores for Twilight. And i am a fan of Burwell.

A very interesting choice. I look forward to hearing this and hope that unlike Patrick Doyle he's not "forced" into RC'isms.

Last summer, Oscar-nominated composer Carter Burwell was at the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Bros. to record his score to Disney’s The Finest Hours, based on the true story about an incredible 1952 coast guard rescue, directed by Craig Gillespie. The film opens today and we’re thrilled to bring our readers the exclusive photos from the scoring session!

    Enjoy!

Burwell has some very interesting (and slightly depressing) things to say about it at his website.

In order to move on to Hail Caesar! we recorded The Finest Hours in July 2015 even though there were months of post production still to be done. After I left to work on the Coen Brothers' film, Craig Gillespie, the director, started dropping more and more of my score and in the end most of the action sequences were re-written by Phil Klein. So the final score is two thirds my original composition and one third something else, an amalgam of my themes with the tropes of contemporary action films such as sampled drums, electronic drones, and string ostinati, all bringing it closer to the temp score and to the action clichés I was hoping to avoid. I'd like to point out that this is in no way Phil's fault. He was gracious and as respectful of my score as he could be. He was following the director's orders and if he didn't do it someone else would have. He kept me informed about what he was doing and asked if I wanted to be involved. I listened to some of his cues and gave some feedback, but I was fond of some of the music that was being replaced and ultimately it was too depressing to participate in the process. In the end I reworked a few of my cues to fit the final cut of the film and recorded them in October 2015, and Phil recorded his replacement cues around the same time. Phil got the credit "Additional Muisc by..." on the film, and I put some of his cues on the soundtrack album - "Crossing The Bar" for instance. Happily for me, Mitchell Leib of Disney let me put some of the cues that had been dropped from the film on the soundtrack as well, rescuing them from a watery grave.

Burwell had a busy year and the WSA Academy awarded him with two prizes (Best Composer and Best SOng) one Public Choice Award for Carol. He wasn't able to attend but left 3 video messages, getting funnier and funnier because of change of suits and the fact that he apologied everytime for not attending.

I believe Burwell could be a great central guest next year. I know he's on the list of composers the festival wants to get to Gent so I can see it happening soon.

Burwell is very on/off to me as a composer, but it would be interesting to see him as a guest. I've heard he's very shy and private as far as public appearances and interviews are concerned.
    I am extremely serious.
