I'd be happy with a serious version of Rango.

That would be absolutely bloody fantastic, actually. The mickey-mouse-free parts of Rango are some of my favorite moments of Zimmer's career.

This seems like a very interesting project for the man. It brings away from all the tiring franchises he's been scoring lately. Hopefully we'll get to hear some fresh, inspired ideas.

He better not just write the main theme, bail last minute and then give it to his ghostwriters though. That'd be rather frustrating and even predictable...

Well, last time he tried his hand at biblical stuff was The Prince of Egypt and that turned out pretty well. Of course this is more like a documentary instead of an animation epic, but still, he might be repeating some of that flavour and I wouldn't mind it.

Hmmmm...that show looks a bit too 'clean' and reverent for my taste.

I wish someone made Bible epics in a more gritty and authentic fashion. More like Gibson's PASSION OF THE CHRIST.

Such apologetic productions are already all over the place. For example there was that US/European co-pruduced series of tv-movies "The Bible" - with great actors actually - during the 90s:

    http://www.supermansupersite.com/0104150.html

ComicBookMovie.com reports that composer Hans Zimmer has completed the new score for Zack Snyder's reboot of the Superman film franchise, "Man of Steel."

According to the article, fellow composer Tom Holkenborg recently tweeted the following in regard to the highly anticipated score for the new film:

"and back in the studio!! Big playback coming up tomorrow with @ZackSnyder @RealHansZimmer ..... The whole movie scored! #manofsteel"

I'd rather Bible epics be less "authentic" and less gritty since it is a fantasy world afterall. Gibson's take on the popular Christ myth is a self-indulgent, gratuitous, pornographic piece of Christian propaganda.

I could not put it better. Still, John Debney's score is superb.

Couldn't disagree more. Whether you believe in the subject matter or not, the story is so powerful and deserves a nuanced, gritty treatment. At least as an alternative to the overly reverential ones.

I guess you think the same about Jackson's Lord of the Rings then? tongue

Personally the clean and ungritty Bible adaptions annoy me greatly because it's dishonest of the people who claim to believe in the stuff and base their life around it...if you're going to mentally condemn billions of people to eternal torment, at least have the decency to present your source material accurately without flinching at its' extreme disturbingness. </religionrant>

There's some fantastic stories in the Bible (well, the older part at least). And there's no greater story then a guy who can split a sea!

It looks a bit ... funny. wink

Interesting point. I suppose my dislike of the gritty nature of Passion is that people actually believe it to be true, and a film like this has no doubt cemented many people's whacky faiths. At least Lord of the Rings doesn't require you to take it on faith that it represents any historical truth. In that sense, silly pompous Bible epics are more welcomed by me since they present the source material in a rather less serious tone. And I'd probably find the end torture scene in Passion perfectly acceptable (and rather entertaining) were it not for its rather obvious pro-Christian agenda.

The problem with a film like Passion, as I noted above, is that millions of people actually believe it to represent historical truth. When put in context, the film and its message is extremely disturbing. Out of context, admittedly I suppose I can see a well made piece of cinema. (Well made in that it achieves its intentions.)

No doubt old Moses is hard but Superman would still whup him.

Oh yeah, Zimmer's been listening to Vaughan Williams symphony # 5 wink
