  1. Yes, Powell branched out on his own. Maybe he took one or two rhythmic ideas from Zimmer or one or two chords, but he has a sound of his own.

Exactly, Zimmer has his own 4 note chord progression, and Powell has his. tongue Such diversity!

It sounds more like Powell than Zimmer as of now biggrin

    Thank God for that! biggrin

I thought the Zimmer clones always sounded like him... sleep

They do. But Powell is not a Zimmer clone. rolleyes

I never said that... But according to some people here, all his assistant are clones...

My memory isn't really good, but it seems Powell was Hans's assistant at some point... biggrin

indeed, and at that point he had to take all the personality out of his music and make it sound like Zimmer's... a clone, in other words. Thank God he left MV so he could actually start writing in his own way (though apparently he has plenty of his own "clones" helping him out)

Warning! You shouldn't lump Hans Zimmer with anything remotely creative now. Seems like there's a current backlash, not exclusive to this forum, to Hans Zimmer and everything that he is. Beware of the onslaught of flames from the flamers.

That said, I'm glad I wasn't the only one noticing the Singapore related material in the sample. Hopefully we won't get another Horton album. That was a good score, but it felt overdone and made for a tedious listening experience.

I agree, this cue is a great mixture of Zimmer and Powell sound (which is actually not suprising...).

Interesting. I took a listen. It's got a mix of the Powell sound which I like and the Zimmer sound which I dislike. dizzy
  3. Some composer I have never heard of and has a electronica background, says on his site he did additional score for the new Batman film. Scary.
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.

The clip reminded me of Horton's technique though. Same constant and rapid changes of styles and moods that lead nowhere.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Yup. I didn't really like how it was loud for a second, then quiet, then loud again...

...but was it on a loop? dizzy

Well it is on a loop. But it's around 2 minutes or so, and you can listen to different material. I am not talking only about changes of volumes and dynamics but also motific-wise and style-wise. TOO.MUCH.DIFFERENT.STUFF.GOING.ON.SIMULTANEOUSLY.

    That's almost noise.

Actually, it's the seperate recorded instruments, played with the 'play at random' function on. You see, the mixers were on strike that week.

I bet if there hadn't been any tempos/style changes some people would say: "That's boring and monotonous, no different tempos and styles, the typical Zimmer crap! "... rolleyes

If you're referring to Mel Wesson, that's old news by now. He did additional music for BB, but he took a backseat as "ambient music designer" for TDK.
