By the way, this month's "composer of the month" at montages.no is about Rahman. Check out what I wrote (and samples as well) here:
http://montages.no/2010/10/manedens-kom … -r-rahman/
Cool, although I don't understand a word. Is there a translated version?
BTW what's the reference to "Thiagarajans Ponnar Shankar"? -

There is no translated version, but this is what Google Translate came up with:

It's quite low-key, but I think the samples are lovely and could fit the film perfectly. -

I saw the movie last night. The score fits the movie well but in the mix of all the library music it doesn't stand out except in the final few minutes.
The slower, pensive pieces might sound like Santaolalla but that's largely because it's stripped down to a guitar and little else. The Liberation themes fit perfectly with the energy of Boyle's films. It's nice to see some cool ideas with the continuum fingerboard (in Acid Darbari) playing an ethnic-tinged theme.
I couldn't wait for the preordered cd so I bought the digital download when it released a couple of weeks ago. It's a great listen if you avoid the non-score tracks. -

There are 2 beautiful string led pieces in it, one is the opening piece. How's the movie? Worth it?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Rahman is in Oslo tonight (playing just a 20 minutes walk from where I live), performing at the Nobel Peace Prize concert. I just saw him on the telly....he did a suite from SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and "Jai Ho!". The former was OK, but the latter is just terrible. I hate his über-commercial songs with lots of vocoder stuff.
I'm surprised he didn't play the "Bombay" theme, what with its political connotations and everything. Would have been more suitable, the venue considering.I am extremely serious. -

Can anyone recommend any Rahman scores in the same style as "Couples Retreat" and the more romantic parts of "Slumdog Millionaire" - i.e. unashamedly saccharine and utilizing pop-style instrumentations?I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

There have been quite a lot of Indian films where Rahman has done scores in that vein, especially Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and Ghajini. Unfortunately, none of them has been released at all, from what I know. Though if you want a sweet emotional track, you might like Waltz For A Romance from Lagaan.
BTW if anyone is interested in hearing Rahman in full-on orchestral mode (even channeling JW at some points), here's a track from his score to Robot ("Endhiran" in Tamil) - http://www.hipcast.com/export/P8a36a21c … REZ2Rx.mp3
It's a DVD rip of course (albeit largely free of SFX), the official OST has no score at all. Boy, how I wish one of our film music labels puts this stuff on CD. -

It's an excellent orchestral track, but BY GOD, the title song is absolutely horrendous. PLEASE, Mr. Rahman, can you retire the bloody vocoders already!I am extremely serious. -
