First I loved John Williams. Was one of the first composers I discovered. I used to listen his action stuff, and his compillations. I bought a lot of scores by Him...
Then Suddenly He annoyed me. he bored me. and I thought it was a overrated and old fashioned "Old man".
Now....I like Williams! Not in the same way like I do with Goldsmith, Zimmer or Powell. But I like Williams. He really has talent -

Yeap!
A few questions :
1- How much music contains "Fiddler on the roof " by Williams? Where I can find the tracklist? Is it a good score?
2-Born on fourth of July is good? it contains some ethnic stuff or some specific solists?
3-what about tom Sawyer?
thanks -
- CommentTimeNov 29th 2007
1. soundtrackcollector could have the tracklist. I don't know for the rest.
2. I like it, but it only have 20 minutes or so, of Williams score. The rest it's sixties pop songs.
You won't find any kind of ethnic tunes or soloists here.
"The Shooting Of Wilson" is one of the most disturbing pieces by Williams, and the main theme is around a solo trumpet like First Blood, but in a more sad way.
Anyone alse agree with me here, or am i totally wrong?
3. never heard a single note of it.

I had the privilege of seeing him conduct the Chicago Symphony this weekend. It was one of the more amazing experiences I've had in a while. I'm so glad a drove the six hours to get there; it was worth every second. -

I too saw him conduct the Chicago Symphony this last weekend. I went to the Sunday Matinee. It was great to see him live at least once in my life.I'm your Piper at the gates of dawn. -

That's the show I went to as well.
My favorite piece had to be "Escapades" from Catch Me If You Can. The three soloists were simply stunning. Although I felt a bit sorry for Cynthia Yeh on vibraphone. She looked like she was playing her heart out, but was definitely overpowered a few times by the xylophone.
I was excited when he announced he was going to play the love theme from Accidental Tourist for the first encore. It's one of the few scores of his that I haven't heard. Then when he followed it up with the Imperial March....! -

Indeed. But it's still true on both sites, Cynthia Yeh on the vibraphone was greatly overpowered by Patricia Dash on the xylophone.I'm your Piper at the gates of dawn. -

OK, if you have the four-CD Star Wars Trilogy box set, it's on disk 4, track 17 Carbon Freeze / Luke Pursues the Captives / Departure of Boba Fett at 3:36 - 4:11'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Thanks!!! Now I can see if it's used in episode VI and II !
Emperial March, Yoda's theme, Leia's theme, Force theme, Cloud City theme, Boba Fet theme......Now I only have to notice the R2-D2 and C3-Po motif.
A new Hope and Empire are PERFECT in thematic devolpent from one to another. -

In Empire, it can be heard at the very beginning of Attack Position (or Attacking a Star Destroyer if you're listening to those new-fangled 'special editions').
Edit: Hey! There's a second post to this thread where everyone has already answered that question. How's that for an utterly incompetent first post? -
