Thanks for this.
I would have found it incredibly sad I would have been there for an encore yet wouldn't have got it (like you mention during the Saturday performance). But it's so easy to forget his age and just realize he's doing what a lot of people can't even do at that age anymore. You have to realize he's still doing all the stuff, and so is still fit mentally and physically
It's so easy to remember when you're there. But it sounds like another wonderful evening.waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh -

It certainly was. I don't know if you've ever seen Williams live or not, but there is (hopefully) another chance in Italy next year. Will be costly, though.I am extremely serious. -

This has taken me a whole year to prepare and produce, decades if you count the research and accumulation of material. But I thought it was the appropriate time to create now, as a tribute to my favourite film composer in his 90th birthday year.
A complete walkthrough of all of his television music (with the available material and data that we currently have), presented as a podcast series over multiple parts. I hope you tune in and follow it. I will start working on Part 2 soon.

That was interesting. I liked hearing the early General Electric clips, particularly with the focus that was placed on the music for the anthology series with Leigh Phillips' rerecording of a couple of Jerry Goldsmith scores. (I haven't heard the Elmer Bernstein album you mentioned.)The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Thanks for the comment, Alan. I haven't heard those Goldsmith scores from PLAYHOUSE 90 yet; my interest in old US TV music is mostly restricted to JW. Mostly.I am extremely serious. -

I have a little fun story...
I visited my husband's family recently and attended my in-law's church for Easter. I found out that the pastor there has a brother who sang in the choral group that recorded Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with the maestro. Do I feel a teensy bit more connected to John Williams by this non-really-associated-association? Why yes, yes I do, lol. Thought you'd get a kick out if it too. -

Cute story, Cailin! Only three degrees of separation.
By the way, I forgot to say earlier that the 6th - and final - part of the JW television podcast series was released last week, for anyone interested:

So -- after all the debacle surrounding the INDY V CD, I DID manage to order a copy when it was last available. Should hopefully be arriving in late October. But for $32 and a horrible exchange rate, it's the most I've ever paid for a single CD in my life. Debates about this have gone wild on FSM and JWFAN. Did any of you manage to order it?I am extremely serious. -

Personally, I am not interested in ordering this. And I am quite pleased that I have no interest seeing all the stress others are going through. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Yes, it's occasions like this that I wish I weren't a Williams completist. Just sit on the sideline and watch the mayhem unfold.I am extremely serious. -

You would think that, for a John Williams score, this sort of debacle wouldn't be happening. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

But it must be a long time ago since you bought a cd as well?Kazoo -

Oh yes. A long, long time. I posted my want list of some 40 titles in another thread fairly recently. These titles have stayed there for several years now (and the list has grown a bit as new releases have come out in the meantime). Prices, shipping, customs rules, personal economy and other things have made them unattainable, almost.
Back in the olden days (meaning the 2000s), I could easily get 4-5 CDs for the same price as I now pay for INDY V alone. Or, to put it another way, that CD will cost me about 10 days worth of dinners. But oh well, I'll live on bread and water.I am extremely serious. -

In other Williams news, it was touching to see him reunite with a very frail Sejii Ozawa on-stage in Japan a couple of days ago:

Thor, I'm impressed that you can find dinner for $3! I was content with streaming for Indy 5 (and The Fabelmans). -

With current, terrible exchange rates -- yes, probably $3-5 for a dinner. Streaming works fine for most things, but not for Williams. Need to get it all in physical format.I am extremely serious. -

Did you get the re-issue of War of the Worlds so that you don't have to listen to Morgan Freeman's narration, or is the narration acceptable to you? :D -
- CommentTimeMay 14th 2024
It's only in the beginning, so acceptable. But dialogue is a no-no in general. Did you get it?I am extremely serious. -

I see there's a new set of concerts with Williams conducting next June in Berlin
https://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/ … dar/55652/
Not cheap!
All these concerts remind me that I was there for his first European concert in ages and he fell sick the day before the concert.Kazoo -

215 friggin' Euros?!?!? Wow. I paid €56 for his Berlin concert in 2021 (for a choir seat), so I see the cheapest at €61 isn't that much higher. But still a lot of money, especially with the current, crappy exchange rate for the Norwegian krone.I am extremely serious.
