The Imperial March moment in the film is very much in your face, in the way that it is quoted when, GASP!, Vader is mentioned. Couldn't you be a bit more creative with that, Mr. Rian Johnson?
you must not have much liked any of the other Star Wars scores then.Bach's music is heartless and robotic. -

I was thinking the same thing.
My issues with The Last Jedi in that respect are less "X theme played when X character is seen/mentioned" (because that's called film scoring) and more "X theme played in exactly the same fashion as it was in previous Star Wars scores". I feel like at this point Williams is following the narrative as well as he ever has, but doesn't really seem all that interested in extending or developing it in new directions. -

Little piece about Williams in which he speaks about The Post and Star Wars, confirms he's doing Episode 9, and has tribute paid to him by David Newman and Mark Hamill:

I predict that John Williams will be awarded the Oscar for Episode 9. It will be a summary award of sorts.

meh... it's not like it really matters. The Oscars have never been about actual quality; I'm just glad to see Williams continue to thrive.Bach's music is heartless and robotic. -

Yeah, this is rough. The Last Jedi is the better score but The Post had a better chance of winning due to the film's prestige.
(Either way, probably doesn't matter. Desplat has this one in the bag.) -

NP: THE POST - John Wiliams
Not exactly a Williams-powerhouse of an album but, my, that final cue is just wonderful. Definitely compilation-worthy.
EDIT: Wrong thread but relevant at least. -

THE POST is a million times better than THE LAST JEDI, but the academy probably just saw "Star Wars" and gave it a nod, like a walkover.I am extremely serious. -

John Williams wrote a nice theme for the Oscar nominated short film 'Dear Basketball'. -

Pretty straightforward Americana for an over-the-top short, but yeah -- would love to have a recording.I am extremely serious. -

We got to hear that at the John Williams concert in LA this summer. Kobe Bryant came and narrated it live. It was one of the highlights of the concert (if for no other reasons than that it was a Williams piece I had never heard and that the LA crowd went totally bonkers when Bryant walked on to the stage). -

I think so too - Desplat will win for Shape of Water. I have enjoyed both The Post and The Last Jedi. I view the Last Jedi as a compilation or like a long Star Wars Suite really which is great to listen to, but not that memorable in terms of any new music. I like The Post's understated musical role, which isn't typical Williams, so it's nice to hear his subtle style too. -

Well, this is both exciting and extremely frustrating. On one hand, better quality, yay. On the other hand, another new release without a complete AOTC and ROTS?!

Very exited. A must buy for me. Great film (anticipating in many ways Coppolas version) and score!

I am curious about the improved sound on the Disc 2 OST which I'm very glad they included, that's pretty much it for me (and see if difference is all that it's made out to be). But I will probably suffice with a digital promo which I can use to replace my iTunes import (and maybe browse a pdf of the liner notes); I'm otherwise content with my old Varese CD in physical format.
But I'm aware this has been highly sought-after by fans -- especially as the OST had become rare and expensive -- so I'm happy for them.I am extremely serious. -

Also very excited about this. Haven’t heard the score yet, but ordered it immediately, without listening to the clips. Have been revisiting The Fury in anticipation. -

There is nothing thematically/melodically memorable with the cue, but I like the slightly "cleaner" sound of it, which makes it closer to the prequel music than the all-over-the-place, whimsical quality of last two scores in the saga (especially TLJ).I am extremely serious. -
