    I can't stop listening !

I love that and i honestly can't wait for the beefy sequel score.

In intense contrast to IRON MAN by Ramin Djawadi which is simply hideous to my ears. No MUSICALITY nor MUSICIANSHIP at all, no melody, no coherency, no meaning, no class, no nothing; just plain, unorganized and messy noises, clumsy volume of high levels and an awful grainy, noisy and amateuristic recording. I am afraid that Ramin Djawadi after the equally hideous HITMAN, Ramin now ranks among the people who should NEVER BE ALLOWED TO 'WRITE' A SINGLE NOTE EVER, EVER AGAIN. Like Tyler Bates, The Rza, BT.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

But if they don't keep trying then they won't get better!? wink

BT, for example. There's some lovely music in his score for Monster - cues such as "Childhood Montage" and "Ferris Wheel" are beautiful.

Ramin did Beat the Drum, which was nice. And I thought I read somwhere his score for the Belgian first real 3D movie Fly me to the Moon was quite good too.

As for listening, I've had so less time, but when I was playing something, it was obviously LOST Season 3!

The first cd is excellent, not as excellent as the first Season, but defenitely s good as the 2nd. Highlights have been mentioned here before and I agree of course with those. Julliette is Lost and Ocean's Apart are just magnificent variations of old themes or introductions to new themes. It's much more agressive as well, even when the 2nd Season was already much more violent and fast.

The cd2, which unfortuntely doesn't have the same high level all the time. It's a bit too ... slow or so? I don't know, it's odd, because it is like actually listening to a score from a 90 minute movie. It defenitely builds up towards the final scenes, and here it shines again.

The last couple of tracks are great. The combination of the Life and Death theme with Carhlie's cello are awesome. And I love the 'Oceanic Six' motif, even though it actually only exists of sound scapes. But it's scary!

No. I don't love the score but I do love that main theme. One of Williams' finest. The problem I have with the score are two things. 1) It's overscored. 2) One of the first Williams "modern" score where I started to hear lift from previous Williams scores.

NP: Holdridge Conducts Holdridge - Lee Holdridge

Yes, this is a classical album and this post probably belongs in the Non-Film Music thread but I decided to post it here. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?!

Anyway, here is a sorely under appreciated composer. This is a man with genuine talent that has written some spectacular film music and what is he doing now? confused The fact that we don't know just goes to show how flawed the current system is.

Back to the CD I'm playing. Those that love beautiful orchestral music written by one of Hollywood's best composers should check this one out. This album has everything from big, ballsy, bombastic orchestral material to tender reflective music featuring many heartfelt woodwind and string solos with lush string backing and melodies that would be a welcome addition to any film.

GIVE THIS MAN SOME MORE HIGH PROFILED FILM WORK!

    Jeez...

And audiophiles take note. I think Robert Auger engineered this project and is one of the greatest recordings I've ever heard! Oh baby... the ending of "Lazarus Part I" and "Lazarus Part II" will knock you on your ass!

I've listened to this one so much over the last week or so... and I've come to realise something which leads me to speak words I never thought I would utter... perhaps I was wrong and Erik was right - this may be one of Elmer's very best scores after all

    Geoff Zanelli composed Hitman.

Djawadi composed Beat the Drum, one of the most beautiful works ever to come from Zimmer or any of his students. Give the man a break. It's already on record that the direction of the score was set by a committee, not the composer.

He still wrote the music and took credit. If he didn't like the direction then he could have easily stepped down.

It would enhance his reputation to the nth degree in my book!
  4. Close Encounters is incredible. I listen to Star Wars more, but I think Close Encounters is the work Williams should be most proud of from 1977.

I listened to the first 10 tracks of Speed Racer before, and it's pretty impressive. If the rest of that album continues in the same spirit and quality, it's another worthy notch in Giacchino's belt. And I don't have a problem with the sound of the recording.

NP: Standard Operating Procedure (Danny Elfman)

I love Elfman's theme for this. This is my second time through, and I'm just floating with this. It's like a Glass score, but perhaps a bit more engaging as a standalone listen than Thin Blue Line and Fog of War were before I saw those marvelous films. What makes it more engaging is I think a combination of Elfman's rhythmic choices, stronger emphasis on melody, and his ever-shifting colours (a growing feature of his work ever since Mission Impossible). Overall in tone this music captures the blend of circus freak show and existential horror of Abu Grahid. Well done Mr Elfman. Best score I've heard since Youth without Youth and There Will Be Blood. (And the two Serenada reworkings fit beautifully in context.)

Now all we need is this new Indiana Jones, Daybreakers, Wall-E, The Happening, The Argentine / The Guerilla, and a new Desplat score and this year will really start to look halfway decent.

Good on you! Perhaps the best way to stop filth like this being done in future is to simply ignore it.

The Bridge, Finale and End Credits.....14 minuts of beer beer

With a lovely reprise of all the themes and even the "basket" tune from Raiders..

Im starting to like Raiders march. More in this re-orchestrations in the second and the third movies than as heard in the first one (Something like what happen with Star wars theme in the first one and in the posterior movies)
