I've heard about the pageants before, but the doll picture and your mentioning "swim wear" stuff, just makes one go "holy crap, what is wrong with these people?!".
I wonder whether the mothers were doll-malnourished as kids. Or perhaps they had too many, and are trying to relive their doll-obsessed childhood.

The film is charming, but certainly not those pageants! It does make a point of how stupid those kiddie "Beauty" pageants are. Good film if you ever get the chance (the kind of thing you'd only really watch once). -
