    Call me an optimist, but I'm pretty sure society isn't so bad that someone with an abnormal condition like this necessarily entails "lots of abuse" whenever they walk down the street? I'm sure that kind of behavior is in the minority.

    Notice it's ABC News, which is an american station. The subtitles are used with all the english people, not just the girl with the disorder. I find them perfectly understandable too, even though I'm not english. Perhaps the news station is worried that its viewers won't be able to figure out that "meself" means "myself".

    How did I only read the bottom half of the message?

    Anyway, fair enough. Nothing new there: Dutch and Flemish tend to subtitle one another's broadcasts as well, which may be construed as just as weird, as we both speak Dutch (albeit with noticeably different accents and vocabulary at times).
