I want to make friends with some Oscar Best Original Score judges
Or become one myself
When the nominations are confirmed, film scores or otherwise, exactly who votes!?
Members of the Music Branch of the Academy. You get in by invitation only - I think it's generally composers who have been nominated for a music Oscar in the past along with some record producers and other industry figures. I think the late David Wishart was a member.
Thank you James.
That's what I thought.
That was the general rule, but recently Harry Gregson-Williams and, I think, Mark McKenzie were among people who joined the branch.
Indeed, they do invite various other noteworthy people in. And getting a nomination doesn't automatically get you in - I don't think Santaolalla was invited in even after he won! (He was invited in after his second win, though.) -

I'm finally up to date with this thread again. There were 800 unread posts since I last checked it. (But I still haven't read the Zimmer, which is well over 1000 unread posts!)A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Why not get a team to read them for youOn Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

So there's only 9 minutes with no music? Nice.
Yeah. But still man, if what that guy on h-z said is true, 74 minutes is good enough for me at least as I'm not much of a completist. -

Huh? I thought Franz was saying how he had over 800 unread posts in the Powell thread, and over 1000 in the Zimmer one? -

Here we go again.
I am 100% serious when I say I think the only way we'll see this is if we pool some cash together and try and get it. -
- CommentTimeJan 23rd 2009
Gosh, already $50
If we can keep the "who gets the original copy" problem aside, I too feel we should go ahead collecting money. Better CD-R copy than nothing methinks. -

It's quite simple actually. Whoever puts the biggest lump sum in gets it. For example, I could put $50 in and you could put $70. If we won, then you'd get it. Regardless of who places the actual bid and gets the item sent to them, they should then be tasked with sending it on to the right person. Unless everyone around here has trust issues.
Plus there's also the problem of spending God knows how much money on it and then a copy leaking anyway. -

That's true but you never know, it's worth taking the risk. If it doesn't leak then all we have is those butchered tracks on the OST. 74 minutes is certainly worth the risk IMO. -

Geeee..whatever happened to patience?
It'll leak eventually (especially now there appear to be more promos around).
In a year's time we'll be inundated with it through various channels and in various formats.

Most promos are overrated. Of all the Oscar promos which are longer than the official, released album, I can think of only two which offer an improved listening experience. -
