Well, they are the same bone heads who think that Transformers is the great score ever composed as well. I tend not to listen to such rubbish because that's exactly what it is.

Can't agree more. The score AND movie are complete trash... so if you haven't seen TF yet, don't bother. If you have... shame

It's a shame when a fine film like Iron Man gets a completely underwhelming score from a MV clone when a traditional John Debney score would've been far more enjoyable.

  1. NP: Georges Delerue - Beautiful themes for piano

Much like its sequel compilation (beautiful themes for oboe and flute), this is a gorgeous mixture of themes. He's incomparable, this melodist.

Count me as one of those corrupted young people who consider this somewhat of a modern classic tongue Not my best Pirate score, but one of the best!

NP: The Lion King - Hans Zimmer

AARON ZIGMAN - akellah and the bee

Quite a surprising score for Zigman; among the usual Thomas Newman lift-offs, there's cool modern music here with electronica elements and minimal atmosphere, urban biano, smooth synths and strings with bass, cool rhythms and chill out tone. Good.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Alexandre Desplat apparently. Justin Boggan posted the news on Emile's JNH/Silvestri forum. In which case we still may get a very very good score. It's just disappointing for me, for obvious reasons. slant

Well, if it stays with Desplat I'm not quite so disappointed anymore.

I'm sure Michael will disagree, but I wonder whether we'll end up with another New World situation here. Like Horner, Desplat's quite a formal, rigid composer and I'm not sure that's what would ever work in a Malick film - Morricone and Zimmer are much more fluid in their approach, happy to score ideas rather than scenes, which is perhaps why their music worked so well in his earlier films.

I think Desplat is more of the kind of a guy who will actually sit down and find a way to do what he wants in fusion with Mallick's vision, instead of the "i don't give a fuck, this guy is pissing me off" type of Horner approach. I am confident that Desplat's refinery and elegance in his work is what this movie needs.

I first heard this in the railway station in Barcelona back in 1987, it holds special nostalgic memories of waiting for a train while in the company of two gorgeous Norwegian girls who I travelled with for a Month....*sigh* cool

    It's a gorgeous melody.

The Clone Wars - Kevin Kiner

First time I listened to this I thought it was terrible, second time not so bad, third time I'm afraid it's gone back to terrible. This is the kind of music which has so obviously been written on a computer and however talented the orchestrators (they do their best), it just sounds so utterly simplistic it can't satisfy me. It's like one of those video game scores that everyone raves about but which I'm sure given two or three minutes on a computer I could write something just as good. Not impressive at all.
