    Ah. Fair enough.
Can't really think of any childeren's series that really held up well over the years (when not enjoyed in the temporal/societal/cultural context of its setting).

  1. NP: Penelopa (Max Richter)

This is an odd scenario, as I've been asked to serve in a sound design capacity on a friend's feature project. He took the unusual step of having all the music recorded in advance of shooting by Scottish composer Max Richter. So I'm watching an edit of the film, coming up with sound ideas, and the music is already there, which is great really. It reminds me a lot of Ludovico Einaudi and Michael Nyman - beautiful and melodic for the most part, written for piano and small string ensemble.

As with them getting weapons as christmas gifts. Far better understandable within the right time and context, but just odd if presented in a 21st century movie. But there was no way to avoid that scene, since those items played an important role, at least in the first and second movie. They could have gotten them somewhere else, of course, but I guess the "true fans of Narnia" would have flogged Adamsson to death then.

NP: Julius Caesar (re-rec.) - Miklos Rozsa

Anyone else feels this re-recording is much better than the original? I mean, not just the quality, I'm listening to Battle At Philippi and the re-rec version sounds much more powerful and dramatic to me than the original!

It's never been my favourite Rozsa and I have to admit to having listened to it just once. shame
You are refering to the Broughton rerecording?
(I guess so, as I'm not aware of any other).

    NP:Robocop (Poledouris)

For some reason the dramatic impact of The Dark Knight (movie) reminds me to the tragic but heroic movie of Robocop. Specially for the drama of the characters, and the industrial touch.

The theme is underused!!!! Why??? is soooooooooooooooooooooo good!

It fits the film perfectly though I agree that it's not satisfactory on the album.

The Robocop 3 album features the theme more.

Bernard Herrmann - The Film Scores Salonen and the LA Philharmonic

I find I'm not much a fan of his scores on CD, but rather the compilations of themes and selected cues from his scores. Some of his film score albums are a mission to get through, but thanks to wonderful re-recorded compilations like this, I can enjoy his music to fullest.

Agreed COMPLETELY! I have the same issues with Herrmann's music so I find brilliant recordings like the one above the perfect way to listen to Herrmann's music.

NP: All The Brothers Were Valiant - Miklos Rozsa

In a bit of a Rozsa mood the past couple of days. I love this score's main theme which I heard on a Silva Screen/Rozsa compilation album. This is my first listen of the original soundtrack recording which came out from Prometheus Records a decade or so ago. A very exciting, rousing, thematic score for this sea-faring adventure.. Not bad sound either for a 1953 film.

NP: Dark City - Trevor Jones

I don't have that many Trevor Jones soundtracks, but of those I do have, this ranks at the top of them. "You have the power" is an absolutely amazing cue. Especially when it's played LOUD!

Medal of Honor Compilation (M. Giacchino / C. Lennertz)

What´s great about this saga is that there´s so much awesome material that you can do a different compilation once a week and enjoy the listening experience every time.

Both composers did a great job. Lennertz was the perfect choice to take over the series from Giacchino.

Medal of Honor Rising Sun and Medal of Honor Pacific Assault . Try to listen ASAP the first one, really good. The second is not available if I´m not mistaken, but I think lot of the music is from Rising Sun (please somebody correct me if I´m wrong, because I didn´t play Pacific Assault and couldn´t compare).

I'm not familiar with Pacific Assault but European Assault contains one of my favorite Lennertz themes... Dogs of Wars. Actually, it's one of the best MOH themes.

I think you can get all the MOH scores through iTunes. However, you might want to check other avenues to find DRM Free files with higher bit rates. Try nettwerk.com and Amazon.

This is a great release from Varese. A gorgeous score full of vividly colourful orchestrations and it still sounds all incredibly fresh.
