- Comment I would not count on anything in HENRI IV being by Zimmer except the basic structure of the title theme (which is clearly derivative of earlier Zimmer work anyway). It has Jackman's fingerprints all over it.

- Comment Good words. I did find myself a bit disappointed by the sampled instruments and generally RC-lite feel to the proceedings (similar to how some Doyle scores have sounded in the Eragon - Rise of the Planet of the Apes era, although a case could be made that McKenzie manages to blend those conventions ...

- Comment I'm not sure it's fully either one of those, since he was instructed to score the film as 100% serious as if it were live-action. So if anything, I would say pastiche, but I have issues with that word in this context too

- Comment I think it can be irritating and even insulting to an artist and by lesser extension fans of their work, when works which are not intended or recognized by the artist to be pastiche, are labeled as such by critics. If the work is intended as an original creation and it gets labelled as pastiche, ...

- Comment With so many themes / motifs, such a huge ensemble, such riveting recording quality? Such classical film-music-like structure? I thought I was fairly clued in to what is going on in the game scoring world, and Lair is still a step above most of the rest to me. I didn't mean there are no such scores ...

- Comment I feel like I have a fairly firm grasp on the idea of "pastiche". The difference is, with Debney and McNeely, one can clearly point to the music they are "pastiche"-ing. Not so with McKenzie. It sounds like you are not familiar enough with his work to recognize his unique voice. ...

- Comment NP: Lair - John Debney & Kevin Kaska The La-la-Land Records edition whose existence I somehow missed until recently. It's really incredible that a score like this was ever written for a video game. Unfortunate that the game sold poorly and did not a start a new trend of video game music ...

- Comment
Thor wrote You said it -- "period"! It doesn't have to be specific composers. The neo-romantic style is that which all film music hails from (first molded by the stylings of Wagner, Mahler, Strauss and so on).
But his music doesn't sound like any of those composers! ...
