He is a very famous Hong kong actor. His movie are really entertaining and fun to watch. He always attempt to do real stunts, due to this on several occasion he faced many accidents which is even dangerous to his life. In his movies, i have noticed scores played important role. I have observed many times that scores are really good in Jackie Chan movies, e.g Rush Hour, Dragons Forever. If you guys wants to know more about him. Click below links:

I first 'discovered' Jacky Chan back in his glory days... 1985. At that time there were basically zero people out there you knew about his movies. I had a Chinese friend, and while visiting his house he put on a kung fu movie "the Drunkenmaster' (at that time I only saw Fist of Fury and the Big Boss, Way of the Dragon and such (bruce lee) movies, but no other kung fu movies)... o.k. so the VCR started playing and it started right at the scene with the little book featuring the 8 drunken gods... its the scene when the pages are turned, each page featuring a drunken god and Jacky demonstrating the techniques. My jaw dropped, based on this scene alone I started to search a kung fu school and practised kung fu for more than 10 years. After that I dug up other movies of Jacky... all featuring crazy stunts and amazing fight scenes (FEARLESS HYENA!!!)... sadly he is old now and his movies suck now. No more realy crazy stunts. Hey, I don't blame him... he is just old now. Not his fault. I met him 3 times... I worked in a hotel where he came regularly... I even escorted him somewhere.. I know its lame, but at that time my heart was pumping in my troat!!! Anyway... he is just a regular guy, strolling by himself alone. A few days later I met Michelle Yeoh in a elevator... only us two... hahaha... she was prettier in reality. Very nice, had a little casual chat while we went high up in a skyscraper. I just pretented I didn't know her. Very friendly lady.

At that time I thought Kung Fu was the shit, I had to learn it... which I did. But nowadays I tend to practise more realistic stuff... 'the System' aka Systema. A Soviet developed martial art for the army. No belts, no forms, no repetive nonsense drills which will never work in reality. But just getting to understand biomechanics... if you get the feel of that, you actually don't need to know techniques per se... they will come automatically from your subconsious 'biomechanic aware' brain. As long as you relax, breath and move.. you can pull of amazing stuff. Happens me all the time during training... I often think... 'how the hell did I do that?' well... like I said it will come naturally. DON'T TRAIN FORMS/KATAS it doesn't work in reality! I trained forms for 10 years with kung fu... its good for stamina, and it looks good, but it will not work! I still like kung fu... but still... anyway... Systema is very interesting, but weird looking when you see it the first time. (don't expect amazing high kicks or fancy stances or movie stuff) For those interested, feel free to ask.

    Cool stories, Talos!
    Thanks for sharing.

Reaching the dreaded four-oh this year, I have given up all aspirations towards becoming a magnificent martial arts warrior (for some reason I thought I'd just grow into it, rather than to actually invest in physical effort, which I hate! dizzy biggrin ).

What I seem to remember to have read about The System is that it is exceedingly vicious, completely geared (as any good soldier's training should!) towards disabling with extreme prejudice.
This for me is one of the reasons I actually prefer the more formalized sports, with katas and belts.
Sure, it won't work in the "real world", but then it isn't supposed to! Like fencers aren't good in a fight or bodybuilders not being vere strong it is far more -I think- about unity of mind and form, which reaches a sort of epitome in a stylized format, which is pleasing to do and to look at.

But it's not gonna stop a bullet.
(But then I doubt The System does wink ).

Thanks for the reply Martijn (ben jij een Nederlander?)... I actually don't train this stuff to fight... actually since I practised kungfu/systema I never fought. (20 years now) I just like the martial aspect. Don't know why. They nice thing of Systema is that you can express yourself. (something like Bruce Lee said)... truly express yourself. Not copying some form, which some master hundreds of years ago invented. Free flow... your own 'style'... actually it isn't a style...

Everyone's expression of Systema is somewhat different. It is like being taught to paint and then expressing yourself in your paintings.

That's what I like about it... and very important nobody has a EGO. (no belts)

I also bought an battle ready European Bastard Sword. In Europe we had a very nice swordfighting system. Called Liechtenauer swordfighting.. Very cool, unlike any of the crap you will see in movies, but some stuff easily as good as asian stuff... have a look:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kj4Ng6DBfrg

That's how they did it in the past, not like shown in dumb movies, hacking like brutes, none of that!

OK, I'm not sure what that means?
    Surely there's a goal, isn't there?
I mean, if it's a soldier's training, especially from the old USSR, I'm guessing aesthetics or self-expression really isn't that high on the list!

You make it sound more like some form of capoeira?

See, the problem with swords is that it always, always, always reminds me of its ultimate ineffectuality...
    wink
The only sword fighting I've been able to get into (and still want to pick up and actually do some day) is the -yeah, highly formalized and ritualized- Japenese kendo fighting.

The main origin for that fascination is...well...I'm so transparent. shame

You must be very lucky guy who met one of the greatest personality on this planet. I admire Jackie more as an person than personality. As you know, he came very very poor family and was not able to get good education. Even now, he regret for that, so, he decided to invest his money more on educational institution, especially for poor children. Last year, he visited to my city, unfortunately i was unable to meet him.

You may partly right that nowadays his movies are not as great as in his older days. Its quite natural that age factor plays important role in man's life. At present, he completely focusing on acting than doing dangerous stunts. Its quite impossible to see those glory days again. My favorite movies are

    1. Armour of God
    2. Operation Condor
    3. Drunken Master 1 & 2
    4. Mr.Nice Guy
    5. First Strike
    6. Dragon Lord
    7. Heart of the Dragon
    8. The Young Master
    9. Police Story 1,2,3
    10. Dragons Forever
    11. Miracles
    12. Rush Hour 1 & 2

By the way, thanks for sharing your wonderful experience about meeting Jackie Chan. beer

    Have a nice day!

Wheels on Meals is awsome, I've probably seen it at least 15-20 times or so since I was little. My dad had it on the same cassette as Armour of God, so me and my brothers would watch those back to back. Sammo Hung is just hilarious!

Anyone my age even mildly up-to-date on popular culture knows who Jackie Chan is. Many fond memories from my youth - from CANNONBALL RUN to DOUBLE DRAGON to POLICE STORY.

At 55, I wouldn't exactly call him "old", though. The RUSH HOUR movies are perfect proof of his continued amazing shape! I'm sure he could do these roles for at least another 10-15 years if he keeps it up.
    I am extremely serious.

  1. Haha Jackie Chan, love his films, even the cheesy ones. 'Who Am I' is one of the first I saw with him actually seriously kicking ass. The 10-minute rooftop fight with him, Ron Smoorenburg and some other asian fella is just insane.

Also, I think his last good outing was New Police Story, which has a somewhat ridiculous story but is very entertaining overall and features a quite emotive Chan, the movie always does something to me on an emotional level. I'm a softie I know. And the second part is just one hell of a kungfu comeback.

Ah yes, Armour of God, I saw that one way back for the first time as a bad VCR tape copied hundred times... you know... barely watchable, rented from a Chinese video rental store, since you couldn't get it through any other channel at that time) I love that movie too, its dumb as hell, but what a great stunts and fights.. (fight with the monks, fight with the black 'shemales' hahaha ) and the trick with the chewing gums.. (at that time I practised like hell to be able to do that too with these gums... to pop/shoot them from the thumb into the mouth) eventually I could do it, but i wasted lots of chewing gums! smile I also like the crazy motorcycle stunts in that movie. Did you see the documentary "my Stunts" that one is quite nice too.

Check this clip out, nice!!! Nuff said, he IS the man!

How about Dragons Forever? I think that's best one featuring the combined talents of Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. It's just an all-out riot in the fighting / comedy department. The final battle between Jackie and Benny Urquidez is a showcase of two men at the top of their abilities, and gets very intense because you can truly see the hard-hitting impacts. I also get a good laugh from that boss guy with his cigar. biggrin Jackie in Hong Kong rules, but apart from the Rush Hour films, Jackie in Hollywood mostly bites.

Dragons Forever is one of the best films of Jackie Chan. It contains comedy, romance and great action stunts. The "three brothers" Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung simply rocks... Don't miss it.

For your information, he has huge fan following all over the asian countries like India, Srilanka, Japan, China, Malayasia, Singapore, Indonesia etc. He rules eastern world but not sure of western world. I heard he became so famous through films like Rumble in the Bronx, Rush Hour, Shanghai Noon, Shanghai Knights and The Forbidden Kingdom.

I don't know what this has to do with my comment? I was simply stating in Hong Kong JC has managed to contribute massively to the asian film industry, to the point he is an icon there. But Hollywood has never let him grow to his potential, because he was never able to do the insane stunt work he could do easily at home. That's what people remember, not the storylines, not the acting, it was the stunts and the no holds-barred fighting. So those American films, with their high level of polish, ultimately fall flat. But at least Rush Hour 1 & 2 are great fun.
