I also dislike the end credits big time. Why include Marion's them AGAIN? Erik's edit is a million times better.

The thing I love about the end creidts is the new take on the Raiders March in the end.

YESSSSSSSSS!!! When I first heard that key change right there toward the end of that tried-and-true piece I wigged out! It was an awesome feeling! It still sends shivers to heard this music go by itself in a direction totally different than my memory automatically expects it to. I can't believe it took Williams 25+ years to come up with that delectable arrangement.

    RECORDING PLEASE! cool
  4. Well,

Pretty much was top notch, the performance was very good, though at specific moments they were sometimes slower or faster than the original version

Jaws, Hook and The Patriot had extended and different endings, but altogether this was an evening full of highlights

The 3 Star Wars Themes (Battle of the Heroes, Across the Stars and Duel of the Fates) were surrounded by the massive sounding Star Wars main theme and Imperial March punk and on the other end stood 1941, Amistad and The Terminal as most appreciated versions of the evening

oh, and the children's choir did a great job on Home Alone while Double Trouble received an extended and oomphed version when both the children's choir and adult choir took this wonderful theme in for a spin

Altogether without the occassional sound problems (hearing Hans Zimmer's Rain Main theme playing over the boxes during the begin of The Patriot was a first for me tongue ), this evening was excellent

    I'd say

    8, 5/10
    punk

    Holy shit! shocked punk cheesy

To all not present: you were wrong god damned!

    Various reasons:
    - Williams chose the selection of the performed pieces himself and wrote suites especially for this concert. For example, the Memoirs of a Geisha suite was marvellous and quite some expanded material from the original score. Also Night Bus from Azkaban was awesomely performed with big orchestra! So it was a unique concert, not just your 'lets throw in his most famous themes' kinda concert.
    - Excellent performances of our orchestra and the 3 choirs (80 singers, including 30 children). The solo's (clarinet for The Terminal, and violin for Schindler's List) were both superb, especially the clarinet.
    - Thrilling moments with Hook, E.T., Memoirs and especially Far and Away in the first half. The second half reached its highlight with Star Wars and the massive themes (Force Theme, Imperial March (ow yeah!!!!), Accorss the Stars, Duel of the Fates). I was extremely suprised to hear The Patriot, a really tense and cool main theme. Hymn to the Fallen was
    - It.Was.Awesome!
    - I met Philippe Rombi afterwards and talked with him like for 10 minutes about some of his scores and the fact that he's going to perform at a concert about the centenaire (100 years) of film music this year in France (gonna look up where it is exactly). I also climbed with him over the fence of the parterre to go outside. biggrin

Minor problems were sometimes the pace (Battle of the Heroes was a bit too slow, though still impressive and goosebumpy!) and the mixing (sometimes they wanted it too loud!)

    Programme:

    Part 1:
    - Hook - Flight to Neverland
    - Far & Away
    - The Terminal
    - Memoirs from a Geisha
    - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (those 5 notes! OW YEAH!)
    - 1941 - March
    - Schindler’s List
    - Jaws
    - E.T. - Flying Theme (according to Williams, his favourite scene he ever scored)

    Part 2:
    - The Patriot
    - Saving Private Ryan - Hymn to the Fallen
    - Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone - Harry’s Wondrous World
    - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - The Night Bus
    - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Double Trouble
    - Home Alone
    - Amistad - Dry your Tears
    - Star Wars - Suite
    - Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Battle of the Heroes
    - Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Across the Stars
    - Star Wars, Episode I: the Phantom Menace - Duel of the Fates

    Finale:
    - The Empire Strikes Back - The Imperial March
    - Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark - Raiders March

Nice line-up. Should have gone, yes I know. sad
What do you hear? Nothing but the rain...
  5. Part 1:
    - Hook - Flight to Neverland quite good, it did however contained a new ending
    - Far & Away really good even though they couldn't follow the rhythm at times
    - The Terminal awesome, the clarinet player was brilliant
    - Memoirs from a Geisha goosebums as Bregt said with an inspiring powerful end
    - Close Encounters of the Third Kind (those 5 notes! OW YEAH!) in my book the 5 note finale was played too fast, but the abduction scene made me shiver as never before
    - 1941 - March superb, even though it made me realize just now how much it sounds like MacArthur tongue
    - Schindler’s List captivating stuff and really nice solo performance
    - Jaws awesome added ending where it climbed to a powerful climax
    - E.T. - Flying Theme classic so nuff said wink

    Part 2:
    - Raider's March just like the original, and for once it didn't open at the begin but at the middle biggrin
    - The Patriot awesome extended piece, as said by Bregt the concert version as Martin vs Tavington track were glued together smile
    - Saving Private Ryan - Hymn to the Fallen really lovely, nearly perfect
    - Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone - Harry’s Wondrous World as good as the original
    - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - The Night Bus fun atonal piece that took everyone by surprise
    - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Double Trouble extended version where the adult choir took over from the children's choir and gave it a mighty finish
    - Home Alone charming performance of the children's choir and lovely version of the theme
    - Amistad - Dry your Tears it grew to amazing heights near the end punk
    - Star Wars - Suite as good as the original version
    - Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Battle of the Heroes sometimes lacking a bit of spunk of the original, but almighty fun
    - Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Across the Stars sadly this piece was a lot shorter in length, one of the light dissapointments
    - Star Wars, Episode I: the Phantom Menace - Duel of the Fates powerful stuff, the drums here were absolutely awesome, and so was the choir, it litterally blew everybody away

    Finale:
    - The Empire Strikes Back - The Imperial March as powerful as the original woohoo
    - Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark - Raiders March

Altogether, it was an evening that ROCKED punk
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  6. Hell yeah! Awesome concert, I heard instruments (especially the brass) that I didn't hear on the original recordings. The orchestra and conductor give it their own spin without ruining that special feeling of the original. Highlights for me:
    - Hook
    - Close Encounters gave me goosebumps
    - 1941 (never heard it before but it reminded me of some other militaristic march by Goldsmith wink )
    - Jaws (just fantastic, it has renewed my interest to get this score out of the dust),
and basically all the choral stuff.

So thanks to Bregt, Thomas, Marie-Lise, Mario, Bob and friend to join in the fun...
My rating: punk punk punk punk punk punk punk punk punk
One point of for not including something else as the encore in stead of another rendition of the Raiders March, like the Parade of the Slave Children, or Superman.

  7. Man, this looks like a REAL John Williams concert. That thing we had in Sydney last year was nothing next to that lineup.

I told him our forum has a soft spot for his music. And that Angel was very popular among us last year. He was glad to hear that. He liked the result of that score, quite unusual for a French film he said because it was so big. smile
