John Powell can now claim to be the composer of the scores to the two biggest flops in Hollywood history. According to a story I read in the newspaper today, Mars Needs Moms is still on release but barring a miracle, will eclipse the previous record lossmaker, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, by a considerable distance (it cost $175m to make and so far has taken in $7.5m at the global box office).
  2. What about Gigli?

    I guess that wasn't a big-budget film.

I guess that's why you hear little of Eddie Murphy anymore.

New project for Powell, another animated feature:

    ‘The Lorax’

Based on a book by Dr.Seuss

    Read more about it here:

The movie is directed by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul (writers of Horton Hears a Who! and Despicable Me), as well as Chris Renaud (co-director of Despicable Me).

Cool. Especially because I love Seuss's stories and Powell made a great musical representation of their crazyness in Horton Hears A Who

While not strictly John Powell, the Angry Birds Samba theme from the new Angry Birds Rio app was arranged by Germaine Franco (Powell's assistant) and John Ashton Thomas (orchestrator/additional music).

I find just one Powell album is an overdose for me.

Don't take it wrongly though, I like Powell a lot.

I wonder why they highlight the tracks Dominic Lewis wrote additional music for instead of just giving him the usual credit. Looks like he also wrote some stuff for HTTYD and some of Henry Jackman's scores.

Same here but i rarely can listen to one album at a time. It's usually half one day, morning and the rest the next day. (talking about his animated features that is. I can take united 93 or stop loss unstoppable when i'm in the mood).
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

He's a Remote Control guy. Jackman has also been working for Powell (HTTYD is an example).

    Samples are up for Rio:

Sounds like we're in for another good ol' Powell score. smile The Brazilian flavors are neat, and Chained Chase and Rio Airport in particular sound like fun. Some of it (Juicy Little Mango, Umbrellas of Rio) just sounds like it's going to be really relaxing vacation music.

  5. Listening right now. Nice to hear some hints of the themes from the first score in the first two cues. The second one sounds really like Powell.

You didn't like the first score either. And I think it's one of the best scores from both composers.

Anyway, you can find focus in the non-action tracks and find them boring, but if anything doesn't lacks this score in the action stuff is "energy". I think they are fucking vibrant!
