You were pissed when Harry Gregson-Williams did the "Taking of Pelham 123" remake, you were angered when hey had the nerve to get Tyler Bates for the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood still", and now I present you the oppritunity to get you even angrier:

    Klaus Badelt on "Ben Hur"

Thanks. Heh, I don't see why we should despair at the thought of HGW doing this. While David Shire's approach is utterly fascinating it would be completely at odds with today's sensitivities, so of course we should expect a MV-style score for a remake. I have faith in HGW. Trevor Rabin or Klaus Badelt might have made it sound much more derivative.

I saw an interview with HGW where he describes his job as just that; a job. I get the sense that he's more of a construction worker than an artist. I really didn't like his attitude.

Well, it shows in his music; that he is a construction worker rather than an artist.

I don't know, I don't own many scores from him but I really love the two Narnia scores. I honestly think there's more to it than pure construction workmanship.
  1. It depends on the score, HGW often hasn't been inspired. But when he does a score like Veronica Guerin or Spy Game, or even Man on Fire (the score as heard in film is just a masterpiece), he flourishes. Or Kingdom of Heaven.

Well, by revisiting the score again and again perhaps he'll eventually develop a flair for making it actually charismatic in some way. As effective as it is, I still can't derive much enjoyment from it. HGW's "serious" side is just that: too serious. Narnia and Borrowers are more like it!!

Kingdom of Heaven was perhaps a perfect balance of the two.
