    Some comments:

    What was Barbara Hendricks doing with "Deborah's Theme"? She clearly screwed up in the beginning there. Twice!

    Morricone was touched, and it would be interesting to read an interpretation of his speech.

    Oh, and how often do you get to see Morricone applaud Björk! smile (in part 4).

    another observation...

    When Bjork and Ennio Morricone come out on stage together ( part 1 ) the music is a mash of Bjork's Human Behaviour from the album Debut and The Ecstasy of Gold cool
    On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt

    Thanks for the link, Peter. I saw only the 1st three parts. That soprano really butchered Deborah's Theme but apparently Il Maestro was moved. I hope they displayed the translated speech on the screen when Ennio was talking. Or else it would be weird.

    Of course he was moved. Error or not, Barbara Hendricks is one of the greatest sopranos of all time. It must have been a huge honour just to have her sing that.

    I just have an old boot and haven't tried the new release. But from what I have, the score is rather mono-thematic. The love theme is wonderful and classic Morricone, so it's great whenever it plays. There are some rather charming cues in the underscore but also some uninteresting ones. So it's worth buying, but don't expect tons of melodies.

    That said, this release is 10 minutes longer than the boot I have, so I'm sure it has some goodies I don't have.

    Glad you liked it, guys.

    I agree that "Deborah's theme" was ruined by Barbara Hendricks. I was cringing during her entire performance. The whistler at "A fistful of dollars" didn't impress me either. Of course trying to mimic the performance by the flawless whistler Alessandro Alessandroni is bound to fail. I was impressed by the orchestra when they performed "Ecstacy of gold" though. It's rare that orchestras manage to perform this piece so well.

    Indeed, that was very cool and clever. One of the few Björk songs I like, with the most surreal music video evah.

    Yeah, I wondered about that too. He's done quite a few scores - including feature film scores - since 2005.

  10. He recorded a score for a film that hasnt' come out yet, about half a year ago, and I believe he still has two films scores upcoming. He's not as "active" as he once was, but he's still churning out scores at the Morricone Factory of Excellence.

    Tim, did you notice Kritzerland's double header of The Whisperers and Equus? Apparently they've got rid of the dialogue from the previous releases.

    I'm not at all familiar with Equus? I have The Whisperers on the Ryko release and I'm happy with that, anyway, it's not a Barry score I play very often even though it's very good ( it's quite depressing ).

    I'm happy with the old release. It's ripped to my pooter and the suites have been divided. But this release is certainly great news for the many people who couldn't get hold of the old, super rare release.

    Of course my interest in the new release depends on whether the sound quality has been improved. It also has a bonus track I hear. I wonder if that's something worth getting, or just an uninteresting variation.

    Hopefully the new issue of the Morricone newsletter (MSV) will have more about this release.

    Have you heard anything from this score before, Timmer? Or just heard about it?

    I wasn't quick enough to get the original release but have had a CDR for many years, it has bad glitches at the end of both suites so I'm overjoyed to finally be able to buy this fantastic score which has long been a favourite of mine. cool

    I won't be throwing the CDR though as it also includes Bloodline which I quite like.

    Oh, I am keeping a small bunch of cds with me. I will get a few new releases from time to time. I want to get Red Sonja because I had the Varese cd at one time and gave it to SST. Greystoke has been a holy grail for me.

    BTW, belated bday wishes! Hope you had an awesome time.

    Have you heard his score to Hundra, btw? If you like Red Sonja, I'm sure you'll like that one as well. It's a bit more cartoonish perhaps, but otherwise nearly identical in sound. It's from 1983, two years before Red Sonja, so I'm pretty sure he was hired for that reason and that Morricone was asked to produce a similar score.

    Thanks! Had a lovely day, with some excellent prezzies. My brother gave me a 650GB external harddisk. It's the size of an ipod! I'm still shocked at how far the technology has come.
