Now moving onto more Tiomkin with Land Of The Pharaohs and Gunfight At The O.K. Corral. Man, Tiomkin really knew how to write a dynamite song!!! The "Prelude" to Land Of The Pharaohs' is breathtaking! Simple yet beautiful and sets the tone for the rest of the score!

Pharaoh was my first Tiomkin score. Powerhouse!

    NP: September Dawn, William Ross
Jaw-droppingly beautiful. Is it shameful that I want to keep playing "Elegy" over and over again? I think I'd like to see this movie. It's gotta be a tear-jerker.

Perhaps my favourite Main Theme from this year. I can't wait to hear Hokoyama's next score!

Mercy me! Wow! Great score, great songs and talk about finale's. The Epilogue is going into MY FAVORITES playlist right now! Wow! Wow! Wow! Another big shout out to FSM and Elmern Bernstein for introducing me to yet another fabulous Golden Age classic!

Have you read reviews of that film? I would advise against seeing it. It's supposed to absolutely atrocious, and not historically accurate at all. I think there's a new book out about the massacre though that is supposed to be the new standard. You might check it out instead.

I haven't seen it but heard its narrative and love story were very poor. I read an interesting article in the New York Times explaining this. I heard it was a hateful film. Whether or not it was accurate one wonders why it would be made if it just creates bad feelings on all sides. slant

I was playing: Legend of the Zorro

I prefer The mask of the Zorro over this one, but the last 4 tracks from "Legend" really rocks!

Specially Rockeeter fanfarre with flamenco in "my family is my life".

Oh! the movie is pretty good, imho is 100 times better than any Pirates of the cairbbean movie. Swashbucking all araound! Martin Campbell really deserves more recognition.

    NP:Vertical LImit (Howard)

A very cool theme, agressive action stuff and some ethnic instruments.

Pretty enterntaining, and more varied than Cliffhanger.

I agree, although Cliffhanger´s main theme is so good that I don´t care if the rest of the score doesn´t live up to the main theme. But yes, being objective, I also enjoy much more JNH´s Vertical Limit (the main theme is pretty memorable too IMO):

Very interesting indeed but such a large departure? Dunno, the opening track with its cello ostinati and ticking sounds could be a more organic version of his Batman material. Its tone (and the afore-mentioned ticking sound) even send to the Joker trademarked sound. The rest is Thomas Newman-esque crossed with what he has been doing in Matchstick Men, The Weather man and his romantic comedies of late. Very interesting indeed though.

    KLAUS BADELT - pour elle

Low key, smooth and fragile piano leads via melancholic melodies, string orchestra dominates and escorts through smooth electronic veil and soft beats here and there but without sounding too synthetic. Modern, urban-esque, off-tone and ambient. Nothing special but makes for a pleasant, background listening experience for anyone into this sort of music.

As I don´t know how could I describe it better, I totally agree with your point of view. Nothing special actually, but really efective and definitely the path I like from Badelt, which once in a while (K-19, Rescue Dawn, The Promise, The Time Machine....and Premonition) shows his true talent. Too bad it is wasted so much with minor/uninteresting/uninspired projects.

Edited just to add that the main theme´s rendition in "Trop Tard" is really beautiful.

  2. I was playing Transformers (Jablonsky)

I like it! lick And I am in a good mood so I have no problem changing styles...

Currently playing: Dark City expanded (Trevor Jones)

Gorgeously dark score, even the underscore remains interesting throughout... This is one of my favorites from the composer.

  4. Yes, I do. For example the strings in Manchester Raid are pretty amazing. It's maybe not the most original scoring in the world, but VERRRY intelligent especially for recent tendencies.
