Not too bothered about the songs. Want to hear the orchestral score though.

Songs such as these are an integral part of the score IMO and I love this particular piece.

I cannot wait for what Shore has come up with either. It's like 2001 all over again. love
"considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G.
  2. They are definitely an integral part of the score. Just like the verse in the books is a vital part too. I would always skip those too.

Nice that the diegetic song appears to be by Shore, allowing extensive integration into the non-diegetic score in a way we didn’t see in LOTR.
The style of the song references gregorian chant and early organum (monkish vibratoless male voices, Stepwise melody, open and parallel 5ths). This conjures a sense of deep past in a European-inspired culture. Any religious connotations are avoided by the orchestral accompaniment, words, and similarities to more vernacular Celtic or Nordic folksong. (Note, for example the melodic similarities to Horner’s Braveheart love theme, which itself is a textbook study of Celtic sociomusical connotation.) Finally, the style is similar to elvish singing in it’s sense of mystique and remembrance of an ancient past in the fog of memory. Yet it is distanced from Shore’s elvish music by being completely diatonic, with no hints of eastern otherness. It is also hyper-masculine (through deep voices and repeated notes) as opposed to the more androgynous elvish singing heard in LOTR." -

PERSONAL NOTE: Also reminiscent (in style) of Venorah's song (song of exile, "we will go home") from HANS ZIMMER'S KING ARTHUR score
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

The whole setup of the scene reminds me of this too, and the song. Well, before the Gerrard-isms that is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--1m-DPf … re=related

Sounds epic, can't wait! The "typewriter" sound kinda reminds me of the percussion on "The Chutist" from Mission: Impossible 3 (at 1:09), only slower smile

Here are some quite long extracts from each track of the deluxe edition. If you love the LOTR scores, there´s no way you won´t get excited by this.

Edit: The end credit version of that Misty Mountains song is giving me goosebumps. It´s a great homáge to the time back when those books really took off and became cult classics. That said, the whole score sounds incredible. Shore certainly did his homework there.

    Nobody likes this?

I think it's the song version (for example to use at the end of the film) of the dwarves song we hear in the trailer. Or am I wrong? It's very catchy, and I love it when after the first third, the hand clapping begins. Very nice rhythm and melody.

  5. Songs such as this may be the dark cloud in Shore's score(s). The Dwarves' song in the trailer I was not too keen on. I will 'click-the-link" later.

It's worth noting that this song (and the theme used in the trailer) were both written by Plan 9, not Howard Shore.
  6. I remember Plan 9's name popping up several times in the CD listings.
