RV: Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Pretty good movie! Goldsmith's score fit very well.

It's actually one of the few films I can think of where the score features so prominently, it's basically everwhere, to the point it becomes more important than the actors or the story. I believe Goldsmith's score is an important principle character in itself and so it helps the movie in every respect.

That being said, I know what I'll be watching tomorrow!!

Take away that incredible score and you're left with a bore-fest.

Just watched it again and I have to say, while the score elevates the movie into that magical kingdom only few films know how to get into, the film itself is anything but boring. I've always love the chemistry of the original Star Trek cast, and the sense of wonder and mystery in this first Star Trek big screen adventure is constant. Sure it's slow moving but I think that's not a bad thing. In an era where films need to big moving at the speed of light this comes as a breath of fresh air. And the human adventure is just beginning...

I'm always excited to watch this film series. Even the bad ones I like.

I watched yet again the original Cape Fear with Peck and Mitchum. Cady was the ultimate sociopath/revenge machine and superbly played. This film in black and white didn't need blood and gore to make the point like the poorer DeNiro and Nolte remake. If you've not seen this film you should!!!!

I need to see the original.
    I hated the remake.
    Can't stand Nolte.
    De Niro was just disgusting.

  2. Australia

    on Blu-Ray shocked

At long last a movie that has captivated me unlike any other released in recent times. Gorgeously shot, superbly acted and told with a level of passion and dignity that is becoming so rare in Hollywood. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are great and full of energy as the leads, and the little kid who ties the two together is impressive in his screen debut but the biggest character of all, the Australian landscapes are just mindblowing. If you have access to hi-def watch the blu-ray because it's absolutely amazing in the picture department. The movie had me entertained from start to finish and Baz Luhrman did an incredible job of making you care for the characters and the core of the story: the oppression and alienation of the Aboriginals in Australia by the settlers. I liked the music very much... David Hirschfelder is not a name I'm familiar with but his score really contributed to the emotional and grand impact of the images. Australia is highly recommended.

To say nothing of the mystification of them by directors who do a far better job of designing a scene than directing one. wink

I'm not a fan of this film. Huge missed opportunity for me.
There are nice little bits of score in there, but I found there wasn't much left to like after the excessive copying from the Classical canon (Arvo Part, Elgar, Handel) and the odd film score (a bit of The Lives of Others even pops up). And I'm told the director is totally to blame for that situation.

Well, if it's the director's fault i can understand that; this score has been one of the most uninspired, recycled and on auto-pilot major assignments of late. A real shame.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

    Terminator Salvation

    Fucking Amazing!!!!

Ok, the first half is a little bit slow..but then the secon half is one the most BIG movies I ever seen since LOTR trilogy.

The digital effects are close to perfection (even in Arnie cameo) and the action so "metallic".

I love how McG put some homenages to the earlier Terminator movies ( like the final cimax or how Connor got his scars)
