Wonderland? the movie where Diane krueger, Catherine Z jones, Emile De Ravin, Megan Fox, Kate beckinsale, Jenifer Connelly and Jessica Alba stars together?

  1. Haute Tension or High Tension

debut film of Alexandre Aja (starring our very own lovely Cecile de France kiss ) and the first hour and 15 minutes already showed Aja's talent. His talent for providing suspense, his talent for amazing stylistic gore, his talent for development leading to something. Sadly the ending (and the so called conclusive answer) is pretty ridiculous. It doesn't make any goddamn sense. Because never were we explained as to what would explain this ending vomit

Sad really, because everything else is up to par, even though the moody score will only work in the movie

    6 out of 10

No, the one with Val Kilmer as a porn star who had a very large flute.

  2. Is it just me, or is AMC (American cable channel, for those who don't get it) very FSM friendly with the showings? Sometimes it seems like nearly every day is showing something that Lukas has put on CD, and today was one of those days; I caught the second half of "The Split" (Quincy Jones).

The film was nicely engaging and interesting to watch, and Jones' was fun at times and serviced the film nicely. I won't say it would be a fantastic stand-alone listen on CD, but certainly not a bad one, and for those the work of the '70's will find a good value for their buck buying the CD.

Afterward, since I was still exercising and didn't want to stop, I decided to watch the next film they showed: "Bite the Bullet", 'cause I couldn't recall who scored it. Alex North did. Prometheus released the score:
    http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm?ID=244

Film was kind of lagging interest wise, but was okay enough to kill time with.

North's score? Well, I think it would be safe to say fans of early Goldsmith should check this one out. North can be a hit or miss for some people, and some don't like his style, but for anyone unsure, I can assure you this is not one to skip by -- it's a good score.

    Yellowstone

BBC2 started a 3-part documentary on Yellowstone National Park this evening. Some great images - this episode concentrated on winter and it looked stunning.

Edmund Butt's score for the series certainly had it's moments and I look forward to hearing more next week.

I've just started my second viewing of this excellent series, joyfully this time on the BBC HD channel. Some stunning footage.

I hope Edmund Butt's music can be released - don't suppose it will be, but it's very much worthy of it compared with some of the crap that does get out there.

    The West Wing

Have finished my second run-through of all seven seasons. The quality definitely dropped for a while after creator Aaron Sorkin left following the fourth season, but it remained superior viewing. The first four seasons are the best dramatic television I've ever seen. So smart and witty, such well-drawn characters and fine actors. Wonder if we'll see anything like it again.

I liked the very end shot a lot, and it had a lot of powerful moments.
But I generally liked the fas-paced, high level political episodes better than the more introspective ones.
Though really, at the end of the day, the mix was very good and helped preserve a very powerful and continually interesting and engaging storyline. It's one of those series where it was really easy to watch six episodes for interest...but where you had to stop as the sheer pacing and amount of information and ways of leveraging that information were literally physically exhausting.

I could go to bed after five episodes fully content and feeling like I'd done a proper and very good day's work.

I have not. But you've provided me with a solution to filling this rather large Battlestar Galactica shape hole I've been left with now that I've finished the series. Has always looked like my kind of thing, that and The Sopranos.

A really well-made film. I'm not Ron Howard's biggest fan, but this one's his best film. And what a score. How it didn't win an Oscar I don't know.

Because some smartass thought Luis Bacalov´s Il Postino was better. Oh, and that year Braveheart was also nominated. That makes the smartass even more smartass.

Certainly miles ahead of his Dan Brown snoozers - score and film. Pointless, by-the-numbers film making. (No doubt it makes the average person feel intelligent when they watch them. Bless their little cotton socks.)
  3. Indeed Apollo 13 is, alongside with Frost/Nixon, Ron Howard's very best movie.

The clip James put up of The West Wing has totally sold me, Mel kept on telling me how good it was ( it must have been on one of the nights I was playing pool or something ) and now I feel I really have to see it.

    And Steven

    The Sopranos

    Best. Series. Ever.

I only saw the first series of The Sopranos. I did like it, quite a bit in fact, but I didn't think it was anywhere near the West Wing.

I realize full well I'm in danger of overselling it, and that it may be the tv series that requires most from its viewers (no quick toilet breaks here, folkds. You gotta stay on the ball ALL of the time!) and at the very minimum a passing interest in global affairs and a keen interest in the American political system. So it's definitely not for everyone.
But it was definitely for me.

It's a very different beast, of course, but by the end had developed its characters so well (yes, viewers of 24 and Lost, some tv series actually DEVELOP characters) I think it deserves its accolades. And, of course, there's lots of swearing and violence, not to mention topless ladies, which are three distinct advantages.

    Just kicking into season two.
Though I find it's quite slow in hooking the viewer (I don't think any of the main characters -with one or two exceptions- are all that interesting, honestly), the suggestion of a very small case growing into gargantuan proportions is quite delightful!

And I like the fact the series sheds lights on both sides of the fence.
The parlance is annoying though: I do need the subtitles as I can't for the life of me make out what the hell most of the gangsters are saying (a'ight, yo?).
