I saw this photo from composer Cody Westheimer's Facebook page.

Some people may have already seen this - and will know all about it - but for those who have not, take a look and follow the following instructions to get the best out of the photo.

Take a look at the camels in the photo:

And then look closer at the lines below the "camels". WOW!! shocked

Amazing as it is, am I missing anything other than the fact that it's an arial shot of the camel's silhouettes? confused

No, the camels themselves are actually the long whiteish dots, as seen from above.
    I am extremely serious.

I guess the twist is that they look like silhouettes of the camels seen from the side while they are actually shadows seen from above.

Never mind. I'm being a bit special. shame

I think the answer to my woes is more alcohol! cheesy ... cheesy ... vomit ... sad
  2. For me, on seeing it for the first time I assumed the shadows were the camels - in silhouette. Not realising it was the camels' actual shadows. the look so perfectly proportioned to be the actual camels.

Maybe it was just me but I got a bit of a "wow" moment once I worked out what it was.

    Oh well.

    Go to:

    http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nordland/1.7977974

...and see the photo series from skylines in the North of the Norway today! Fantastic shots. The sun is slowly getting back these days (from months of sun-lessness) and the temperatures are so far below zero that the view is crystal clear.
    I am extremely serious.

This photo has a silhouette and a shadow. That is a difference!

A shot of the annular eclipse from space. Could it actually be real?

I can't believe this is real? Is it the earth that is in front of the Sun? Then this is quite impossible no? Even if it's the moon, then the eclipse would be much smaller. It just feels wrong...

  3. It is the moon that is in front of the sun in this image. I am with you Bregt in having trouble believing it is real. It somehow feels wrong.

Oh dear, that's obviously the only way an eclipse can happen. I was thinking of a lunar eclipse. Makes no sense in this picture!

As it turned out, the image is a fake:

Well, it appears to be realistic but fake. I'd never thought an eclipse would look the same from high above.

Interesting video. That black spot is odd!

  5. I assume that the moon is so far from us relative to the height difference between sea level and the ISS that being on the ISS makes very little difference to the relative positions of sun and moon.

  6. For those lucky enough to avoid my recent photo of me wearing my Scottish finery that I posted on Facebook, I have updated my profile photo with the same photo.

We were up in Scotland at the weekend for my brother's wedding - a wedding that many of us who know Gary thought may never happen (because of his love of cars and all things mechanical). It was a great day on Saturday and the photo I have posted is of Anne and myself when we arrived at the hotel for the meal.

    I don't look too bad!
