Erik, i think your problem is not my reviews but possibly my tastes, my whole approach to film music and perhaps the way i express them; or who knows, maybe it's just me that annoys you from time to time.
'Cause i am not the first and certainly not the last one who uses bold adjectives to describe music with the feelings it evokes. I mainly focus on the musical side of things, always trying to re-create in words and musical terminology how the music IS itself (something which is very hard to do as music is meant to be heard not described); still, you choose to focus only on the adjectives themselves and their use, not so much on my points on the music itself.
English is not my mother-tongue (or mother-thong as Mighty Bregt would've said ) nor do i claim to be a professional reviewer or critic or anything in that allay; nor does it interest me to be one. I can't force you to like my descriptions or not. I am sorry they annoy you but if a composer writes something beautiful and passionate, then this is how i'll describe it no matter what, 'cause that's what it is. There are some works that cannot be reduced in one-word phrases and powerpoint-like points. I never felt the need to tone-down every such work's significane or grace in plain, cold and perhaps self-centered one-word and one-phrase descriptions; there are so many others who do that better than me.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I can't speak for Erik, but my point was that the same effect can be made with less words. I appreciate what you're trying to say, and I pretty much agree for the most part. But your sentences tend to drag a little and end up getting lost in too many hyperbolic descriptions. It's not a terrible thing per se, but it does mean your point is somewhat lost in a sea of mismatched words.
If I were to re-write your Passion review, It'd probably go a little something like this:
Passion of the Christ is full of rich themes with unrestrained power, pathos and melody. By sticking with these themes throughout, Debney creates strong bridges between underscore. He avoids throwing chords around and develops a strong musical narrative.
Well written and performed, Debney's score fairs well in comparison to the last 9 years of scores, and I'm sure his religiosity had much to do with its emotional power. I believe Debney revisited a sense of grace from a bygone era of scores while keeping a contemporary feel, and this balancing act is what makes the score so successful in my mind. (Not to mention the astounding choral and percussion works. Without being clichéd, Lisbeth Scott adds a layer of depth and meaning to the whole score.)
I believe people will get a better sense of what I'm talking about if they pay particular attention to the music in the film and then listen to it on CD afterward. I'd find it hard not to appreciate a score like this if I was in that position!
I tried to retain as much of the Passion (get it? Never mind) as possible, without going overboard with adjectives. That is at least my point.

Like I said earlier... we ALL have tendencies to go overboard... just read some of my glowing reviews of Empire, Raiders, CutThroat, etc... but there is just something about your reviews particularly that suck dry the life of a particular score that you are passionate about. However, IMHO, you have better command over the English language than I do but I think that in some cases less means more.
BTW, this has absolutely nothing to do with taste in music because I agree with your love of Debney's Passion score.

It's still available for older scores.
I would certainly apply it to my play of earlier Until September but not to this one...

NP:Gremlins 2 (Goldsmith)
I like this score more than Gremlins one, because the synth is not so dated.
"pot Luck" The new Gremlins theme is more agressive and with 90's sense of rythms. I love it! specially the Horn thrills.
PS: a new trend is very similar to the first track to Star Trek Final Frontier. -

Blood+ (Mark Mancina)
Very enjoyable and good themes and one hell of a closing cue, this shows Mancina back to form as he was back in the 90s. Original it's not, but it has some killer tracks."considering I've seen an enormous debate here about The Amazing Spider-Man and the ones who love it, and the ones who hate it, I feel myself obliged to say: TASTE DIFFERS, DEAL WITH IT" - Thomas G. -

This is definitely one of my favorite scores for the year 2008. I also enjoyed the film a lot. After watching it again tonight, I'm sad that it didn't do well. I can't think of any live action film quite like it. And the music fits the film perfectly. -

The amount of unreleased material here is surprising! This is the way the score should've been released in the first place. I wish the quality was at least 320 kbps though, but better than nothing for now! A great score!
