  1. Still, I feel for Haslinger, for whom it would have been a personal career advance probably.

Advance from where, to where? wink
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. That would be one small step for Haslinger, one giant leap backwards for us, though, franz.

  3. Having had to break the news to composers that they've been rejected from films (including my own), I know that there's a human side to it, that's all.

  4. Shaiman feels it, Haslinger ... I think he just moves on.

What if Haslinger has been reading your comments and decides to post a reply? Just out of interest, what would you say? biggrin (I seem to recall a similar thing happened for real with Jeff Rona and his Chinese Olympic music. biggrin biggrin )

I am not trying to hide behind my finger there, Steven, as to the Jeff Rona case which you talked about, the OLYMPIC music he wrote is far ahead of what he's written before that, it's evident, at least to my ears. I am always giving the benefit, at least i try to, of unbiased listening of new works, but with Haslinger it has been one disappointment after another, a complete lack of dramatic substance in his film music. I don't have a problem admitting it and backing it up with arguments, you know that pretty well. As it happened with Rona too.

If i wanted to 'hide' or didn't have arguments, i wouldn't write my opinions in a public forum.

Having said that, i don't think Haslinger gives a fudge about me anyway. If i were him, i'd laugh on Demetris all the way to bank.

The films would be well below (even) your radar, but a lot of short filmmakers / documentary makers in Sydney meet / team up with composers through me. If I feel I can break the news better when it doesn't work out, I do it myself. (And sometimes it's also because against sharp deadlines, I can't see a composer finding something that will make the film work better, so I recommend not using the music rather than making the film worse.)

  6. Probably below my radar, but I never count the unpopularity/rareness/or unknown or anybody (director or composer) when documenting rejected scores.

Was reading an early review of Alice In Wonderland; Elfman's score is mentioned by the reviewer -

The special effects are appropriately special and the soundtrack is a very standard and obvious Danny Elfman soundtrack. This is not bad, but it is largely what one would predict from a collaboration between Burton and Elfman. In “Alice In Wonderland,” Elfman augments the dark palate of Burton’s drained realm with creepy underlying music and appropriately grand and spasmodic themes during the battle scenes.

that's because they need to make sure the Wolfman score sells, something the Ghostwriter soundtrack will do even without tracktitles, cover or CD case, the name Desplat will sell it without all that

7 small clips from The Wolfman has been released. Elfman's music in those scenes, sound very good to me, although it's difficult to tell, when it's only a small part of it you hear. So I'm really looking forward to the soundtrack being released! smile
