NP: ANDREW POWELL AND THE PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA PLAY THE BEST OF THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT
Gee, you would think they could come up with a shorter, more creative title. Anyways, it's a rather cheesy album in that LSO Plays Classic Rock mold. Lose the pop beat already! But I'm holding on to it....I don't know, just because.I am extremely serious. -

Pop beat.....WAAAAGGGHHHHHHH

I've rarely heard these things done right, some good ones that come to mind are Tubular Bells, Dark Side of The Moon and The Doors Concerto. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

There are brief moments on the CD that have pure orchestra and the tracks really shine in those moments. You heard a good DSOTM version? I hope you're not thinking of the OBJECTS OF FANTASY thing, because that also has the pop beat:

I love "The Story of the Kalandar Prince" from Scheherazade. Exactly the kind of music I was hoping to find as I start my journey through the world of classical.

Capriccio Espagnol is another fantastic example of the genius of Rimsky-Korsakov.

This one I researched pretty well so if you can get the Mercury recording go for it. The additional works included on the CD are also very good.

Don't let the prices scare you off at all. The public library had this one. Its pricey in the market because it is the best overall recording slightly ahead of the Kondrashin/RCA offeringlisten to more classical music! -

NP: SO STILL - MOZEZ
Anyone familiar with Zero 7 will recognise this guy's voice at the very least. This album is a kind of Zero 7-esque acoustic-electronic downtempo flavoured record with some R&B influences. It's warm, gentle and nice enough but there's only a couple of stand-out tracks IMO. -
