Vehemently biggrin and like arguing over two pints of the same beer just because ones got a bigger head than the other.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN / Return of The Magnificent Seven

    Never heard the second one.

The second one is more-or-less a re-recording of all the cues used in the original film, with some different orchestrations in places. And the second one is in stereo, the first is in mono.

I'm assuming that the second score isn't a later re-recording.

Didn't buy the soundtrack then and I won't buy it now (business as usual: love the music, hate the C&C). But it must be frustrating for those who bought this relatively recently, when it went for big bucks on auction sites, and then to have this new $20 release now...with improved sound, even!
    I am extremely serious.

As Steven quite rightly pointed out, PREDATOR 2 is the better score.

Oooh that's an interesting one. I consider Fellowship the strongest and Return Of The King weakest.

Interesting how you have this mammoth 300-post thread on this release over at FSM (with 150 new replies each day), while barely a dozen or two here. I prefer the lack of hysteria here.

I think in general FSM may be more interested in the whole Holy Grail issue thing, while MT may be more interested in the actual music.

Not to say the good people over at FSM aren't music-minded. Far from it!
But the simple fact that many of the discussions here are more or less blatantly about music NOT taken from, shall we say "official releases" seriously diminishes the whole excitement or concern about low quantity, special edition CDs.

Again: just some very generic remarks, not targeted at anyone in particular, either here or over at FSM.

I'd take discussions on actual music over any other discussion (collectors' mania and like-minded craze crap) any day, thus why i love this place, mt.

It's a bit odd, this whole Predator thing. If it's a load of people who've bought it now because they missed out on it before then of course that's entirely understandable, but I get the feeling the copies have largely gone to people "upgrading" from their previous release on the vague promise that it's not so hissy (I never noticed any problem with hiss on the old one, I have to say). It goes back to a point I've made a few times - this game now seems to be more about collecting than actually listening to music. Got to get this one on the shelf in case it sells out! Whether or not it ever gets listened to is beside the point.

I don't particularly mind these double dips (and another prominent Varese Club sell-out is coming from another label before long) but I think I preferred La-La's approach with Krull ("there's not really much point buying this if you had the old one") though maybe that doesn't make so much business sense.

I think it was a kind of self-propelling frenzy. People saw that it was going fast, and threw themselves on the bandwagon even if they didn't need it, strictly speaking. Also, I think there were many speculators this time. Even I went into that trap - i.e. picking one up for profit later on - but then decided against it, as it just didn't feel right.

^ If that's Die Hard (just a guess) and they were able to find better elements than what Varese used I will most definitely be double dipping.

Yeah, some of us can't wait to get back to our newest limited edition. ;-)

Why ... some people's free time alone will be spent reading "extensive" linear notes and a book, on "Spartacus".

(not me though, I waited all this time for it and they went deluxe-crazy and put it out of my price range)
