^ Oh really? Then we found out where Basil Poledouris drew his inspiration from wink And the whole genre of game music.

    Well done, Steven!

It doesn't get more kick-assy than this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7IGu-OHu4k

No wonder film composers have been trying to recreate the sound ever since.

Not necessarily. But Conan sounds too much like this, really. And every other film / game score since, which tried to sound epic and 'militaristic' -"Russian".

Basil always admitted it and various people including myself have periodically mentioned it's influence on Conan and other film scores.

Great clip by Eidelman btw. I've never heard a score by the guy I didn't like. Wish he worked more often.

    ROUND 30

    Clip

The clip is a bit long, but it was too awesome to make it any shorter. This one should be easy, since any self-respecting film score nut should be familiar with it.

I thought you'd at least have said Horner's Glory. wink

It's true that this score has been a huge influence on many scores, but I don't think Conan sounds "too" much like this. It invokes it, sure, but to me that's a good thing. Better to stand on the shoulders of giants than midgets.

Anyway, have you still not listened to this yet? As Timmer said, CATCH UP D! biggrin

All I could think of was that it was probably Conan (a score I've only listened to once, so it was possible). I have listened to the Prokofiev several times, so should have known it. shame

Yeah. I'm useless. I kept thinking "this sounds a bit like Poledouris - wait, now it sounds more like Horner - oh, is that Goldsmith?" and my train of thought then led me to think it was possibly someone ripping them all off! shame

Hey James, I'm quite envious ( sort of ), you being a seasoned film music fan and not being familiar with Conan, you can actually familiarise yourself with a score that I can hum ( very badly I might add ) from begining to end.

I'm not. First listens are great, but I prefer being familiar with my scores! I like to be able to hum along (badly as well) to them.
  1. beer

I also hum along badly to my favorite scores. Sometimes even inventing stupid lyrics to go with the themes

    Time for a new clip.

    Here goes.

Longer than usual. It's one of my favourite pieces of film music, so I couldn't bring myself to chop it down.

Yes, but I've just realised I forgot to get rid of the embedded CD cover, so I hope that isn't visible.

Hmm. People seem to be bored with this again. Anyway, the answer was
Memphis Belle by George Fenton
and if you didn't bother listening to the clip, I urge you to - it's from a magnificent piece of music!
