Apart from comics, he's actually done work for movies as well: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0320786/

A little surprised to see Space Jam on that list smile

But both Moebius and Ralph McQuarrie, two legendary artists, gone in one week... very sad.

I first came across his work in the American magazine Heavy Metal and shortly after ALIEN.

  2. Ralph Ferraro, composer and orchestrator, has passed away.

He scored such things as "The Virginian" and a movie called "Flesh Gordon".

Orchestrated for such composers as Randy Edelman and Leonard Rosenman.

Months ago I reached him to ask for an interview, and he declined -- he had apparently done a lengthy one with somebody un-named. The is not the first time in the last couple years I have encountered people telling me extensive interviews have been recently done/or just done. Somebody is compilling this stuff, as it hasn't come out yet. Probably some massive book or DVD project eventually.

    Damn. Sorry to hear that.
The score to Flesh Gordon honestly was quite amusing (as was the movie itself, amazingly!)

Also sorry to hear someone doing a pet project like your own is stealing your thunder, Justin. sad

  3. No, it's not stollen thunder if they at least talk to them for some kind of probably epic project. Three composers I wanted to interview have died (he would make the fourth now) in the passed two years. At least somebody spoke to him first.

It's a shame he didn't get more scoring work.

I remember seeing the LP for GRIZZLY ( a superbly lurid cover ) in Covent Garden and always meant to pick it up but never did, I'd seen the film when I was still a teenager and remembered liking the score.

Not film music-related, but got a massive shock just now as it was just reported that Alexander Dale Oen, one of Norway's best swimmers of all time -- and the first Norwegian to win a medal in the Olympics -- suddenly passed away last night, age 26:

It's one thing if people are old and in failing health, but a young top athlete....that's always a shock!

    RIP, Alexander.

I'd never heard of him ( perhaps not unsurprisingly ) but it is shocking when someone so young and so fit suddenly dies, I wonder what the cause is?

    Very sad news.

  6. 26 pffff, now that's way too young sad
You hear it more and more these days, athletes, football players, people who are in top physical condition just collapsing or dying

must say something about the intensity of the sport nowadays, or perhaps the pressure
    waaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! Where's my nut? arrrghhhhhhh
  7. Or the stuff they need to take to keep performing on top.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the passing of actress Patricia Medina more than a month ago.
    Medina (b. 1919, died April 28th, 2012) was age 92!

I consider Medina to have been the best-looking gal from the 1950s, to the extent that I'd rather watch a movie with Medina in it than, say, a Marilyn Monroe vehicle.

The 2 episodes of THRILLER in which Medina appeared are both excellent!
  9. Ernest Borgnine is no more (95 years old). sad

    Link

I liked him in a couple of roles. He had that rugged charm about him.
