That second one is amazing. shocked

If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll being going up in a Jabiru to photograph a story on the increasing use of small airplanes in the area. Should be lots of fun! It'll certainly be the smallest airplane I've been up in.

That 2nd picture D, I've seen a far better pic of a B-1 bomber doing a similar thing at a low level over water, any chance you know/can find it?

Well, I didn't get to go up in the Jabiru, but that's OK, because I got to go up in a Piper Cub instead! It was rebuilt in 1982 from an original 1946 aircraft. The craziest part about the whole experience was the turbulence. The winds were really rough this morning, so the plane was getting hit pretty hard. As far as I'm concerned though, a little turbulence equals fun!

I see one of these every so often coming in to land at the Airbus factory at Broughton - not too far from where I work.

It's a wonder there are not more car accidents around with everyone doing a "double take" when they stop it in the sky.

The fact that it's one of my all-time favourite Bernstein scores? Heck yeah, I'd talk about it for 14 pages! XD

Grimm, but an update on the SPANAIR MADRID BARAJAS CRASH for anyone interested, as the preliminary report is out:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7662544.stm

Also, next time you (or someone next to you) decides to play wise guy with the laptop / mobile onboard a plane, think of this :

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/ar … d=10536660

"Qantas probe laptop link after 300 foot plunge - 09 Oct 2008 - NZ Herald: International and World News
Passenger laptop computers are now being investigated as a possible cause of the Qantas mid-air emergency off Western Australia on Tuesday.

In July, a passenger clicking on a wireless mouse mid-flight was blamed for causing a Qantas jet to be thrown off course, according to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau's monthly report."

I didn't know it could work THAT way. I've heard that they are preparing to allow mobile phones on planes, though.

Well, it's not confirmed yet but with such a serious event on a plane as trusted and uneventful as the A330 the investigators are baffled as the plane was / is working 100% flawlessly and they can't think of anything else that might have caused it. They are currently investigating the said scenario which seems pretty plausible to me, especially in fully automated, computer-based planes as the fly-by-wire Airbus systems.

  6. What does fly-by-wire mean? What does really a wireless mouse interfere with anyway? That would mean a HUGE interference...
