Talking Airplanes!

- CommentTimeOct 21st 2008 edited
It basically means that no cables are mechanically connected to the pilots' control systems directly, something that would require much physical effort especially when in turbulence and all (like in Boeings) but they (the airbuses) rather have a stick that looks like a gamer's joystick that IS NOT directly mechanically connected to the plane's control surfaces but rather sends electronic signals of the pilot's input via wires onto the plane's control surfaces, i.e. the wings and all and which act accordingly.

That's what happens when you cross a Harrier with an F-22.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I don't know how familiar you are with Norwegian geography, but today I flew from Kristiansand to Oslo to Trondheim and back to Oslo again....on the same day! My head is spinning already. Flying 13 straight hours or some such thing to an exotic location is tiresome, but this up-and-down thing on the same day....sheesh.I am extremely serious. -
- CommentTimeNov 22nd 2008 edited
Did you do this for any particular reason or did you just feel like it? -
- CommentTimeNov 22nd 2008
He, he...no, it was work-related.
The flight back from Trondheim to Oslo was rather cumbersome, though. It was delayed due to snow storms in the region, and we finally took off, it was almost as if I could feel the slippery surface of the runway. I don't have the interest in airplanes that Demetris and Timmer obviously have, but I'm always very impressed by the skill of the pilots under such conditions.I am extremely serious. -

One of the most dangerous approaches ever, the hong-gong's KAI-TAK (now closed), views from inside the airplane (boeing 747, turn up the volume for really impressive sound ambiance)

And another plane, from outside, at the same location!

Wow, I knew the famous "checkerboard approach" turn was close to the airport, but I had no idea it was that close. -
- CommentTimeDec 5th 2008
Yeap, several accidents occurred there through the years which resulted in the airports close-down.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Wow, that's pretty amazing. I love the way the flights just multiply as the sun comes up!
Here's a little something I made last night. I should have been studying for my numerous finals, but instead decided to play around and take some screenshots in Flight Simulator. Here's a wallpaper I made if anyone wants it. It's 1440x900.

I used to be petrified of planes... before I had ever been up in one. Now it's become a passion. I just wish I had the opportunity to go up more often. I'm sure you're exactly the same way! -

I am a lunatic. Civil aviation looney. I fly 6 times per year on average and i fly virtually lots of hours everyday. If i only spent the hours spent each day on this hobby of mine onto something that would actually pay me money But then again it wouldn't be hobby, would it?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I only get to fly twice or so a year on average -- airliners anyway. Sometimes I get to go up in small prop planes, but my real passion is with the big beauties. Speaking of which:

As for me, i never liked it; although the cabin of supersonic air travel is quite charming itself, still in realization in the form of the CONCORDE, the cabin was very small and uncomfortable, few selected passengers in contrast to the mass and financially logical nature air transportation should always bear imo, noisy, extraordinarily expensive and disproportional to its actual benefits and most importantly, its security and strength proved to be severely fragile. As a museum piece it's perfect, but other than that, it doesn't surprise me that its usage remained exclusive and severely limited before it was altogether withdrawn.Love Maintitles.
