Someone made a very wrong choice messing with Lukas Kendall...

    Very very wrong.

This situation frustrates me. On one hand I think it's foolish of FFS to blatantly offer uploads of recent releases, but on the other hand, if Lukas ends up having them destroyed, then we'll loose one of the best public sources of gamerips, bootlegs and out of print albums - which is still illegal, but I don't think it should be and hopefully someday it won't be. And this isn't a step in the right direction...

    yeah

If anyone is happy to chip in, by all means do it over at FSM.
Lukas is not going to destroy filesharing.
The FSM crowd after fifteen years waking up to internet piracy is not going to make a dent anywhere.
No point has been suggested in that thread that hasn't been made elsewhere a thousand times over.

For all the posturing and counter-rationalising, nothing -of course- will change.
Holy storm in a teacup, Batman.

Again, if you're happy to run with the mob, please do it over at FSM, and don't do a carbon copy lite here.

Think of the giants, records labels and such who tried shutting down real giant pirates, like piratebay or anything similar in the past. Nothing happens so you can safely turn the other side and sleep now smile Fsm and ffshrine or the entire film music community is a joke next to them.

Pirated FSM CD's have been around for ages. I'm guessing the reason Lukas reacted particularly strongly to this NOW (and got the rest of the FSM membership, almost cult-style, to support him with equal vigour), is that he probably spent lots of time, money and effort on the Ron Jones set, and became frustrated when it didn't sell very well. The bootlegged set was just a target for the venting of said frustration, I think. Otherwise, he would have posted something similar many years ago, when people started ripping his CD's for free consumption.

Of course, I sympathize with Lukas on this issue (and I also expressed my support over there, albeit slightly more calmly), but I think it's better to let it pass. It will always be a losing battle.

Rather, I think the boxed set will earn its costs eventually, especially since it's geared towards the collector, the STAR TREK fan and the Ron Jones fan - neither of which will probably settle with crappy, pirated mp3 files, but want the REAL, physical thing. But maybe I'm being overly optimistic or naïve, I don't know.
    I am extremely serious.

Well, maybe - just maybe, didn't sell good for, let me see - OTHER REASONS perhaps? Of course file sharing is not a good thing to do in general terms, no sane individual will disagree but those who download ron jones star trek - or in fact titles like this, would have probably never bought it in the first place; they just click 'cause it's there, you can do it, out of curiosity perhaps.

Those who have the will and money to buy, buy regardless.

Plus, no matter the validity of his point (i think nobody really disagress with the notion), all that unfiltered emotion and rage seems unprofessional. He could have very well handled it professionally, silently and perhaps more drastically. 'Cause openly calling all the fsm army to go and bash flame etc, as well as his rants and some terribly cheesy comments of sympathy ('see of tears when i read your post' vomit) do nothing but to diminish eventually a pretty valid point and ruin its credibility to people's eyes.

Nothing wrong with a bit of empathy and sympathy for Lukas.
Which I certainly go along with.

But as a reality check: there will be no crushing of ffshrine or other filesharing platform by the soundtrack community.
I just hope he got the rage out of his system and is now able to focus again on the wonderful work FSM does (as with any business: you remain in business by what you sell, not by what you might conceivably sell).

No no, honestly, I am very impressed by your willingness to actually put yur money where your mouth is!
There's not many around here who would take such immediate, decisive action.
    So kudos for that!

So did you already decide which episode you're going to watch first?
Only that I would like to keep up a running commentary on that over at FSM to cheer Lukas up.

I've never seen the show except for a few scattered episodes, and the films based on it. So presumably I would start at the beginning, watch the first season, buy the set and listen to the material from the first season, and then proceed likewise with the following seasons.

and you're still mocking me tongue

Okay, this is a big WTF for me (we have a board at work, and when a developer says 'WTF', we add a mark, and at the end of the day we have this).

It would go straight to the board.

It doesn't make sense. What does that help Lukas, and what does that help you?

Perhaps you might be surprised and like it. Lukas will be happy to sell an extra copy. But ... does that change something?

If there were a thousand more people like me in the world, it would sure help him.

Just because there aren't a thousand others like me (thankfully for most of the world biggrin) doesn't mean I shouldn't do my little part to help out, when I can, and want to.

Well nobody said you shouldn't wink But that doesn't mean that the rest of us who aren't willing to pay money out of pitty for music we wouldn't listen ( i personally didn't even see those ffshrine links, nor am i ever interested in fsm titles, regardless of the format) aren't sympathizing with the fact that he has a (well, now destroyed after all this farce) valid point.
