I'd like to see either Powell or Zimmer end up with this. The Desplat is overrated, and quite frankly I could excrete better than The Social Network in my sleep. -

Which part? I am perhaps a little overly dismissive of the Desplat (which is rather good, although the Beethoven steals the show in the picture), but The Social Network is still all a morass of steaming excrement. -

Jim my friend, if you could write anything close to The social network, you wouldn't be here talking about it but out there making a huge load of money, like Ross and Reznor, two very good and respected artists in their circles. Of course film music fans won't like them, but what they do they do it good and social network works good in the movie and makes for a very good electronica album nevertheless.Love Maintitles. What do they do? I am more than capable of mashing synthesizers ineffectively without charging anyone for the privilege.
Can we agree to disagree? -

That doesn't mean we have to like it as a score.Kazoo -

who said you should ? Calling it like this and "i could fart it out of my ass" showcases someone who has no idea how composition and the music industry works. It is disrespectful and FanboyishLove Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Oh, is it that what Jim meant? I didn't knew it mean farting.
Anyway, I partly agree, and after hearing that it was not really scored to the picture, it seems that it a lot of "high-profile names make music for high-profile film which means it must be better than usual scores".
It makes for a really nice album though.Kazoo -

it means worse. And who said it was not scored for film ? Was not that something somebody assumed ? Even if it is confirmed i can assure you that writing instrumental music and making a name and money out of it plus respect in a large and tough musical genre is much more difficult and worthy than radical armchair criticism of any kind . Especially since it comes from forum fanboysLove Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Ahem.
So because someone was paid for an effort "automatic respect" is due?

There was more solidity implied, so as to cement my total disregard for this piece of aural turpitude. The fact that it is electronica is wholly irrelevant.
But, I am but a forum fanboy, to coin a Thaxtonism. What do I know? -
- CommentTimeJan 26th 2011
I couldn't make better music myself, and The Social Network is a pretty decent score. But it really does not deserve a win. I don't say this because it's electronica or something like that, I say this because from all the electronica I've heard this is nothing new--it's not award-winning electronica. If Ross and Rezner had tried something like this they might deserve consideration. But what they've written is, in my opinion, on the same level of a bunch of other video game scores I've heard. -

I am not discussing the nomination and if i would, i wouldn't agree with it either.
That's one thing. But not my point here.
Suggesting that "i could shit it out of my ass and it would sound better" on a forum though, is ridiculous. If you could, you would do it. As simple as that.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I just have had a massive meal of baked beans and onions, and I can safely say I have created a polytonal flatulence symphony to rival some of the best work by Haslinger.
I'll be sure to record the next symphony tonight (I fancy chili eggs) and send it in for consideration for the next Michael Bay epic.
A career is in the making.

Why or more accurately, how, do the organisers of the Oscars have the audacity to claim it'll be viewed by a billion people worldwide? I never watch it and I don't know anybody else who watches it, and even most people on the forums don't watch it.

I'm wouldn't be surprised if they get a billion people watching. You might be interested but the Oscars are a very, very popular event for the general public!
BTW, in the US alone an estimated 41 million people watch.
