    Nice to see the shout-outs to Eirik and Gaute (the latter whom recently won the Harpa award in Berlin for BRÖLLUP, BEGRAVNING OCH DOP).

    By the way, we can discuss this privately, but if you ever need promos of unreleased Norwegian scores in any given year, I can still send you that.

  9. I'm always impressed that you nominate so many scores that I've never heard anyone talk about. How do you find all of these? Your nominations are always fun for me to see and look into.

    My favorite Drama score from last year was TRAUMFABRIK, but from your nominations, I would go with CLIFFS OF FREEDOM.

    My favorite TV score was Naoki Sato's CRESCENT MOON. Did you get to hear that? Of your noms I would give it to DOCTOR OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE.

    For Animated scores, my favorite was HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. Did you hear BUNUEL IN THE LABYRINTH OF THE TURTLES? I thought that one was pretty strong, and it has some of my favorite cues of the year.

    The Documentary category was strong this year. I would give it to CYBERWORK, but UNTAMED ROMANIA was a very close second for me.

    Would you count Two Steps from Hell as writing scores for other media? If so, DRAGON would be my pick for that category, but that may be just because I didn't hear any of the ones you nominated!

    I didn't hear much video game music that moved me this year. Of the ones I heard, I would probably say that CIVILIZATION VI: GATHERING STORM was my favorite.

    My favorite Sci-fi was RISE OF SKYWALKER, Thriller was MASQUERADE HOTEL, Comedy was LE MYSTERE HENRI PICK, Archival was LEGEND OF THE WAR HORSE.

    That's cool, Alan, and something I've been thinking about doing myself for my own site. I own several of the books in your list (I either own or have read 11 of them), but I lean more towards the 'academic' side of things, perhaps, so I also own several that perhaps wouldn't be of interest to you, given what you write about these. Glad you have 'classics' like Prendergast and Brown (woefully missing is Claudia Gorbman, whose UNHEARD MELODIES is THE quintessential film music book in the last 30-something years).

    I definitely find the more 'academic' books more difficult to understand: some of the concepts I have trouble visualising or adapting to something that I can hook on to. On several occasions these books use examples from more obscure movies that I haven't seen or where I don't know the music, and that doesn't help me understand things.

    I'd forgotten to include a book in my list - THE OXFORD HANDBOOK OF FILM MUSIC STUDIES - which just happens to be one of the most difficult books for me to grasp (as illustrated by just how long the bookmark has stayed at the same page in the middle of the book!)

    I will keep an eye out for the Gorbman book. I think it's out of print (and has been for some time) and used copies seem to be going for over £100. Even I won't go that high for a film music book!
