LOST (Spoilers!)

1. The dude who plays Abbadon is a recurring character, even though he's on weekly in Fringe. We probably see more of him on Lost than Penny.
2. Most of next season is already in the can (by which I mean camera and hopefully not toilet) already.
3. Watching Lost for months on end and then going back to 24 really showed me that Sean Callery is really, really bad. -

No, he isn´t. Every single TV series score is bad compared with Lost. I mean you can´t name a show with such a top quality score in terms of themes, subthemes, dramatic developement and orchestrations (and you specially know what I´m taliking about
). It´s as simple as that.
Would "24" be better in the hands of another composer? We´ll never know. But the thing is that Callery´s work is perfect (and brilliant IMO) in the context of the show. Another thing is that out of context I don´t enjoy it at all (except for a few tracks of the soundtracks) but I do enjoy it while watching every episode.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

Oh come on; don't get me wrong, i can understand the love of the show (although i don't share the slightest positive sentiment against the show itself, 24) but what justifies Sean Callery's unorganized synthy cheap noise as "good", or even as "music"?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Exactly. I thought Callery's work was good, but then when I realised how complex Giacchino gets with Lost, what Callery does is childish. Seriously, give me some synths and a keyboard and I could do it.

It's been ages since I've watched 24, but as I recall I thought the music was serviceable, nothing more. When I picked up the score release cheaply, and suffice to say I haven't played it often, I found it.. well.. wanting.
That notwithstanding, I don't agree that Callery's music shouldn't be fine for 24, although the show, as I recall it, would be an even bigger blast with music of the quality that Giacchino's provided for Lost.
What pisses me off most about 24 is that Callery copied his theme almost verbatim (wrong term, I know) from Chris Young's score from Hard Rain.
About Giacchino, we should also remember that once Lost wraps up, it's unlikely we'll see him scoring another TV-show. The man's going to be too busy doing film scores for that.Luminous beings are we.. Not this crude matter. -

Meh. The important thing is that he'll have done Lost. I don't expect him to be able to top it. -

It's kinda ridiculous to actually expect many others than Giacchino, and especially someone like Callery, to actually outdo Lost.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

If Giacchino can't do it, no one can. I still want to know why he gets the credit for Fringe every week instead of Seiter. The music is clearly not Giacchino as it lacks the punch and imagination his scores are overflowing with. The first episode had some fun music, but the rest is just so mediocre.

And do you know why? Because they never explain ANYTHING. They think fitting a bunch of random scenes together - of stuff that already doesn't make sense - builds up suspense, but in all honesty, I've no fucking idea what the story is. A ton of weird shit happens every week, they go look at it, come out with some stupid "plausible" explanation, there's a weird "cliffhanger" at the end that doesn't make sense and then we never hear anything more of it again.
Did you see the last episode before the hiatus - the bank one? That had potential at the beginning - being able to walk through walls actually sounded convincing when they did that demonstration with the rice, but then they start going on about bloody time machines that could "pick up" someone from any time.
Plus, they keep employing the dead characters from 24. There's a reason they're dead...

Too bad, because the show really looks great (photography, big budget) but as you say, "fitting a bunch of random scenes together" is not enough. And the actors are ok, but the lack of charisma of them is huge.
And I insist about Michael Abaddon: the less he talks, the scarier he is. And he talks too much in Fringe

Yeah, he doesn't seem weird at all when I watch him in Lost now.

I think FRINGE is slowly coming around to be really entertaining. I really enjoyed the last two episodes and look forward to the next bunch. I thought the intro with those razor-butterflies was absolutely fantastic, including score, camera, and editing. -

Why do the never investigate something interesting and slightly plausible? Someone always dies, they take the body back to the lab, find out someone has done something to the person and then go and arrest them. That's the premise for 90% of the episodes.
I'd enjoy it a lot more if what they were investigating made the slightest bit of sense. For example - relating to that episode with the razor-butterflies; they came to the conclusion that the guy was so convinced they were there that his body inflicted the injuries to itself. In real life however, something like this has happened. A repair man was working on an industrial sized freezer, and he got locked in over the weekend. When workers found him on the Monday he appeared to have frozen to death. Then again, he was a repair man; and that freezer was broken, running at 8°C the entire time!
Why not do something like that?? -

Right, the reason I was listening to a lot of Lost earlier was because...I have been asked to produce the season 4 soundtrack!
Ok, maybe not...but I have been adding a lot more to The Four Trombones today. If you head over there now, I've added a nice big "Execute" button which will play everything, and I've also listed which themes and motifs appear in all the released tracks. Soon to come is listings by character, and obviously all the season 5 stuff once January rolls around. Maybe I should also start thinking about getting TFT its own URL...? -

Where does everyones opinion stand on the first 10 or so episodes of season 3?
I love the whole "trapped on the Hydra island" stuff and finally getting to see who the Others really are, but it seems all the people I've introduced to Lost get really bored with these episodes. And nobody seems to understand the ending to the first episode - we find out that Henry's real name is Ben, but practically everyone has asked me "What did that mean?" when the episode ends.
I know there were a lot of complaints about it focusing too much on Jack, Kate and Sawyer, but in all honesty, once I found out what happened to the hatch, I could quite happily put the rest of the characters on hold for a few episodes. -

The first half of Season 3 is pretty tough stuff on a psychological level; the situation never seemed more desperate for our heroes, and there is some serious dominance/submission stuff going on with Kate having to wear those outfits, Jack having to learn to sit in the corner, and all that stuff. On a concious level, people may find it boring. On a subconscious level, I´m pretty sure a lot of people were scared to death; the whole situation is highly uncomfortable, and not everyone considers that to be good entertainment. -

Correction. I should have said, "not everyone considers that to be entertainment at all."
Of course, for people who appreciate dominance/submission scenes on primetime TV starring some very attractive and capable actors, this whole thing was more than good entertainment; it certainly was a very special mindfuck.
I won´t tell you what I thought about it personally.
But I agree to everything said about Kate. Yummy. -

One thing I love about good action/adventure stories (whether TV or film) is when the hero is captured, beaten, on the verge of death and then pulls a great escape! What's not to like?
