I can't listen to "A New Trade" without wanting it to turn into the massive Economist version of Sayid's theme. It's always a big letdown when it ends quietly even though I know it's coming. cry

Ok, this just another of the dozens of questions that are still to be answered, but why didn´t Rousseau recognise Jin after the crash if they had already met many years before and Jin has exactly the same aspect?

I don't remember if Jin and Rousseau ever met up close. Plus there's the off chance (ahem) that Rousseau was a teensy tiny bit not right in the head efter 16 years on the island. biggrin

Nither do I. But then if Jin and Rousseau didn´t met up close (after the crash), why does Jin recognise her (the young Rousseau) at the beach?

Yeah, that´s possible. I suppose 16 years of isolation can put your brain upside down.

Because she says her name. I don't think they interacted with each other but I'm pretty sure there were a few times where they were in the same scene together.

Ok, that´s it then. If not, it would be a total incoherence, even for Lost.

Because this hadn't happened in the past. Daniel's "rules" are completely fake!

Haven't read what you wrote so far because i've only seen the first 2 episodes of the season so far, and will return to the topic once i catch up, but i have to say that - BASED ON THE FIRST 2 EPISODES OF S5, i am very disappointed, both music-wise and show-wise. WHERE THE HELL IS THE COOLNESS OF THE ISLAND? Giacchino is completely off this season it seems and i wouldn't blame him. When i put my favorite SEASON 3 LOST MUSIC in this morning, it came to me again, how cool LOST used to be, with all the creepy new discoveries in the island and the new mysteries that took on, once an old one was solved, along with the pathos and the tragic music of its music that shook our world through the speakers with its power.

In the first 2 episodes of season 5, everything is completely tossed; i don't need to explain it to you 'cause you're obviously ahead of me in terms of catching up and all, but needless to repeat i am heavily disappointed.

We knew that was gonna happen the moment the Oceanic Six left the island. We knew there was gonna be more city than island.

No, we didn't; i personally didn't anyway, i had no clue where they were going to take it from that point onwards and i certainly don't like what's going on here. S5E2 is probably the worst episode of LOST ever, with the crappy childish trash-tv-like Hugo dialogue with his family and the soap-opera-esque storyline. Not to mention that Sayid looks like a retarded kid with the new "i've been so tortured under Ben's service through the last 2 years and i've been through so much that i am evil now". All his coolness is lost; the same goes for many other characters now, and the show in general.

But even if some predicted where it'd head from now on, that doesn't excuse how bad it is.

John "My Island! My Island!" Locke and James "permanently angry one liner" Sawyer would be the other two basically.

I'd say that, yes. Sawyer came to mind as well and on a slightly lesser tone, but still, Locke; yes.

Anyway, watch episodes 3 and 4. You may change your mind (at least a bit), both score and story wise.

Or even better, give it up and start watching the best show on Tv: 24. Jack Bauer will never let you down tongue cheesy

D, the music doesn't pick up until episode 4 (ep 3 has some fairly decent stuff though). It took season 4 a few episodes to get into full swing though so look up!

As I said in a previous comment, it's hardly Giacchino's fault. The first two episodes are dreadfully messy (soap opera like as you said) and I can't see how he could have possibly scored them any differently. If I was Giacchino, all I would do would be to re-hash character themes, simply because there is nothing better to do.

And to be honest - I'd rather it sucked now than season 6. At least the writers can learn from their mistakes and go back to what we used to love about Lost.

It wasn't character centric, it felt like a soap opera more than ever, Rebecca Mader does the worst acting I've seen in a long time, the plot again advances nowhere and they covered the entire "back story" of Rousseau in under 10 minutes. They just glued a bunch of scenes together where we see everything she's mentioned in previous seasons (Montand losing his "frickin'" arm, her killing the rest of the team, Robert not noticing she'd borked his rifle).

On the other hand there are three worthy mentions of music - the piano version of the island theme is cool (and it turns out it was that bit of music everyone liked in The Little Prince). Hawking officially has a theme! And a love theme from "The Whole Truth" made its second appearance since that episode in season 2. Also the ending of "I Crashed Your Plane, Brotha" came back too, but I think that's just a variant on the iconic 5 note suspense motif (the one that appears in the orientation videos).

    Next...

I thought Rebecca Mader sucked anyway, since her first moment in Lost. I can't stand her, so cold, so graceless.

Really? Wow I found the episode pretty interesting, and you know I´m not the biggest fan of all the time travel stuff, but they are tying up a lot of things lately (another thing is if they make any sense).
And it can be fun discovering what did John do once he left the island, and obviously how did he die (in Ep 7, "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" maybe?)..

And another thing: Smokey is back! Oh, and special guest appearance by Cabin Christian. Now this guy/thing/whatever he/it is, is officially in my top priority of things I wanna know.

Aaaah! She died purely because of her own horrible acting skills, who wanted her to die as they couldn't stand any longer themselves (the skills that is).

And episode 14 is "The Variable". The opposite to "The Constant"?

I like it. I had problems digesting the new style of flashbacks and all during the first 2 episodes of this season, but i have no problem with it anymore. I like the new fast pace and the fact that we get answers now, some odd ones yes, but at least is no more questionmarks only.

I totally dig it, and have since the first episode of this season! I think it's getting better and better.

Things will slow down now, I'm pretty sure. Not when it comes to answers (I heard the guy playing Abaddon say that we're in for a treat in the next episode, learning what his relationship is to it all), but as far as the pacing goes, I think the most hectic part is over.

The time flashes made everything seem extremely fast paced, but then again that was the point of it all - to tense things up. The L.A.-plotline - meh, it could've been better, and there WAS some redundant stuff there, but I definitely also think it could have been worse. The last episode was good on that point - I particularly liked Ben's line about having to take care of some business and him showing up, looking like somebody used him as a punching ball. biggrin

What I'm basically saying is that I'm every much a bit as 'on board' as I was last season. I don't regard season 5 as any bit worse than season 4, which presented its own challenges when it came to digesting where the show was going. I'm watching consistently good television, which for me pretty much beats everything else that's on right now.
