316 INTACT = LANDING ON HYDRA RUNWAY!!! Holy shit!

Also, something which is now giving me a headache as I just realised!
We know that the people left on the island (Jin, Sawyer, Juliet, Daniel, Miles etc) are stuck in the 1970s. I support this since: 1. The wheel went back into place when Locke turned it so the time shifts would stop (as Christian said), 2. If the time shifts didn't stop then all of them would die pretty soon like Charlotte and 3. We know that Daniel and Jin have been incorporated into Dharma.
Now, we also know that Jack, Kate and Hurley have also been transported to the 1970s, since they came across Jin.
But the flight 316 would crash on the island in normal time, ie. 3 years after 815 crashed and where the Others still normally live happily. This would be 2007-2008.
Why are John, Ben, Frank (and possibly Sun) with them though in recent time, whilst the rest of the Losties are in back in the past? How will they ever come across?
Unless of course the whole flight 316 was time shifted in the 1970s but we already know that there has been no evidence of a previous plane crash (since this would now be the past). -

I didn't like the episode. it was entertaining, and it has some good moments : Widmore-Locke...
I don't have problems with time travel, smokey, Ghosts, Jack's hair chest.... But better they explain fast why they had to crash another plane and more pasengers (I'm sure they will not make the same mistake than in season 2...but I can't see why right now).

My answer: redshirts. Seriously, if Froughert and a few others survived the writers probably would have killed everyone on 316. I don't like the fact that the only people still alive from 815 are now just Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sun, Jin, Locke, Rose and Bernard. They've taken the 24 route of killing everyone on the show and only adding new characters because they have to.
And did anyone else think Ilana looked really similar to Ana Lucia? -

Indeed Ilana does look very similar to Ana Lucia. She is probably acting as her "replacement" or whatever they call it, on the new flight.
As for the new people... Well, I really don't know where it's going from here. And at what time the 316 passengers are stuck; is it at present or in the 1970s?
Now for the 815 people: You forgot to mention Hurley, Sayid, Walt, Aaron, Vincent (!) and Claire (?). No-one was supposed to have survived in that crash anyway! But for whatever reason, the island kept some of them alive. And some of them longer than others.
A couple of seasons back I was convinced that the island was purgatory and that everyone on 815 was supposed to die or rather did die and were stuck in the middle of life and afterlife. Everyone who "solved" their issues, moved on. Why I say this:
Boone - The guy was useless and was taking no initiative. As soon as he took the opportunity to jump in and do a brave thing he died. He also admitted his feelings towards Shannon before dying.
Shannon - Also useless and no-one believed her. As soon as she began caring for someone (Sayid and Walt) and as soon as someone believed her (Sayid), she died.
Mr Eko - "I do not regret for my life. I had no choice. I was given this life", he replied when asked by "Yemi" (aka monster) if he was repenting or not. He then died (by the monster).
Ana Lucia - "I cannot do this anymore", when confessing to Michael that she does not want to be vindictive anymore and thus did not kill Ben. She then dies.
Paolo - Admits his feelings to Nikki. He sees deeper into her than just his partner in crime and random lover. He truly loves her. He then dies.
Nikki - Realises her mistakes and softens to Paolo's confession. She dies.
Michael - Fixes his mistakes as a father but has to deal with his crimes now. He repents to killing Ana Lucia and Libby and returns to the island to save the people he abandoned. He then dies.
Charlie - Gone from an annoying drug addict, to a loving boyfriend, father and the hero of the day. He dies.
Libby - I am not sure about his one, as yet we do not know her background story. One theory that I have is that she lost her husband somehow at some point, then when nuts and finally found love again in Hurley. She then dies.
Aaron - Every child born is carrying the original sin. Which is why Charlie went nuts trying to convince Claire to baptise him. As soon as a child is baptised, it becomes pure and free from the original sin. Thus if Aaron came to die (or was already "dead") he would be washed out from any sins. [On a sidenote, this could also be why Claire doesn't want Aaron to come back to the island - because he would die].
Claire - Wanted to get rid of her baby. Turned out to be a responsible, caring person and mother. She then "left" (it is unknown if Claire is now dead or alive).
However, we all know now that this is not the case - or is it? The O6 are very much alive as they have left the island and returned to the real world. Could it still be the case though that they are still meant to die? Is this why they should have never left the island? Were they meant to stay there, stuck in a state between life and death, and gradually solve their issues, until they finally find peace and die - since they were meant to die at the 815 crash?
If there is any truth in this theory, I am surprised I must say that Jin and Sun haven't died yet, since Jin progressed from the bossy husband to someone caring and forgiving, whilst Sun has repented for her unfaithfulness and all her secrets have been revealed to Jin. Also, it's not clear why Bernard and Rose are still alive, but then again we don't know much of their background story. As for Sawyer, he did get rid of a big part of his past demons after killing John's father but could it be that he still has some character progression to undergo? -

I can't seem them being stuck in the 70's though. 316 landed on the Hydra island runway which was being constructed in the present. Perhaps they went back in time and got a bunch of Dharma gear? -

Ah yes, that was the runway constructed by Sawyer and Kate in season 3, right? So Flight 316 and its passengers, including Locke, Ben, Frank Lapidus and possibly Sun (since Frank and a woman took one of the rafts) are at present, whereas Jack, Kate and Hurley are in the 1970s with Jin, Daniel, Sawyer, Juliet etc.
Hmmmm.... how will they bring the two groups together again, at the same time? Perhaps Desmond, Aaron and Walt have to return as well? -

I didn't say they were in two different times. I said maybe the Lefties went back in time and got a bunch of Dharma gear and came back.
Edit: We now have the Losties, the Tailies, the Others, the Freighties, the O6, the Lefties and the Newbies. -

That is annoying indeed; like the writers were left out of inspiration and decided "let's throw some more new characters in the form of new survivors of a new stupid plane crash we can't actually explain, and keep them going for 10 or so more episodes. Then, we'll see. "
I am not saying it's ended, done like that, but i really, really hope so it won't prove to be like that.

I don't think they just got a bunch of Dharma gear, cause in episode 1 of this season we saw Daniel working with the Dharma people, before the donkey wheel was uncovered. Also, the last time shift (ie. the one before John turned the wheel) had taken them back to a time where even the well did not exist. All these, along with Jin wearing the Dharma suit and driving the Dharma van, are meant to show (I believe at this point) that the "Lefties" as you call them, and now Jack, Kate and Hurley are in the 1970s.

I think (and I believe this is what other posters were talking about but correct me if I'm wrong) the runway was the "road" that Sawyer and Kate were made to built in Season 3 when they were captives of the Others. Which also adds to my previous comment that the 316 passengers, Locke, Ben, Frank and Sun (?) are thus at present time, unlike the others I mention above. -

If you listen to the official podcast with Darlton, they suggest the time on the Hydra is different than on the main island. -

Well, first of all it clears out the whole time issue. The main island and the Losties are stuck in the 1970s. Which explains why Daniel and Jin are working for Dharma and all that. On the other hand, the Hydra island is in present time, which explains where the 316 passengers are at the moment.
This also means that once Locke, Ben, Frank and Sun (?) travel to the main island, they will be reunited with the rest of their group. It also accounts for the fact that there was no plane crash in the history of the island (besides the Oceanic 815) which kinda confirms that 316 is at present.
If this is the case though, ie. the main island is in the past, while the Hydra island is at present, then it has to be carefully explained. There are other things / scenarios to account for, eg. the Dharma used the Hydra island as well (since there was a station there). So if someone from the main island (ie a Dharma employee) crosses the sea to the smaller Hydra island, will they come across the 316 people or not?
Also, since the wheel is back into place now, will the Losties and co. remain stuck in the 1970s for ever? Will they be personalities of the past or create situations that will show up in the future? For example, will Daniel be the person to create the pendulum in the Lamp Post? Will Jack and Kate or Desmond and Penny be the "Adam and Eve" skeletons? Will Jack or John or someone else turn out to be Jacob?
And on a completely different note: Do you think that Charlotte was the daughter of Annie (and Ben) ? -
- CommentAuthorDemetris
- CommentTimeMar 3rd 2009 edited
On Charlotte: Well, maybe. Or the daughter of the evil Dharma leader, the orientation video Japanese doctor.
How come the losties are extracted by the 316 plane via the flash and the rest end up landing in a nearby field, i.e. the Hydra, which for a plane is TOO close, in relation with adjacent location of the "time shift flash extraction of the losties" which would mean a very sudden, abrupt loss of speed and height in order to be able to land just next to the island from them cruising level on which they were flying, i.e. around 36000 feet or so.
And more importantly, why the plane had to land?Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -
