What an amazing weekend I had in Ghent!

Thank you Thomas, Bregt and Marcel for the warm welcome, nice meeting you Thor, Tim, Lee, Lawrence and Francis, as well as everybody else.

Meeting James Newton Howard is a dream came true. He was so kind that he signed our covers and took pictures with us.
The concert was great with the big highlight which was Sig...not really... it was Snow White and the Huntsman. What an amazing suite and performance by the orchestra, amazing powerful and emotional music.

Ghent is a beautiful and full of life city, I already love this city, with great medieval buildings, it's a city where I can't get bored and the people are very nice. Lots of tourist, too.
Oh and you can have the greatest guides of all: Bregt smile
And the beer, OMG the beer is great, I understand Thor perfectly why he always came back smile

I'm also now a proud owner of a MainTitles Kazoo smile. JNH also has one smile

Stay tuned for photos, I have a great series of beautiful girls on bikes smile

    Great experience (again) in Ghent.

Fabulous music (Thomas' report is very accurate), great atmosphere, and many beers in good company.

Was fantastic to meet up again with the belgian delegation (Bregt, Thomas and Elin), as well as Thor (always a pleasure talking to him, specially with a couple of good, tasty belgian beers on the table), and meeting Cristian and his sister (what a nice guy he is!), and many more (Francis, Joris, Tim Burden,...).

I'm sure we'll meet again sooner than later smile
Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you
  2. wonderful to hear that everyone had a fabulous weekend smile

I hope it inspires other people to come to Ghent in the future, for (hopefully) many more WSA's and meetings

I think it was me who took the photo of Iglesias and yourself? It would explain the slight blur anyway.

He, he...we were all a bit blurry at that point.

I have a pic of you and Iglesias as well. I'll make sure you'll get it.

Thanks! A bit annoying with that person who has a coughing attack throughout the first part, but nothing to do with that.

My question to the composers (around the 5-minute mark in the first part) isn't the best I've made (it was very improvised in an effort to link the three composers together), but at least it spawned some interesting answers.

I also think your video may be better than mine (i.e. the one Bregt made), since I had some issues with the focus. Maybe I could link to your video instead of mine in the upcoming Montages report?

My Ghent album on facebook contains seven pictures of the press conference.
In the old facebook I knew how to post a public link, now I can't find such a link anymore...

  4. Hi all,

I'm sorry I've been so silent lately (and wasn't too overly present at the WSA itself).
I have been very tired, and was so on Saturday. So in the end I only was able to spend some time with the gang in the restaurant during dinner (great to see Patty and Maxime again and to have a conversation with the latter about big beds)...

Anyway, the concert for me was much better than I expected.
Not that I was expecting bad stuff, just that I'm not THAT big of a JNH or Pino fan... So I wasn't sure if the music would grab me 'on the spot'. It did.

Only thing that bothered me a little was that some of the images that were shown on the screen behind the orchestra didn't always match the emotional charge of the music. Biggest letdown on that front: The Hunger Games (Rue's Farewell), where the music was utterly emotional and we got to see Katniss twirl around in her red dress.

Also, for me personally, it was a nice suprise to see they had invited the musicians from the movie 'The Broken Circle Breakdown) to come and perform two songs. I had just gone to see that movie with my mother the day before, and the Bluegrass music basically is a character in the movie. It's a very emotional movie and it was nice to see and hear that music being performed live.

I found out the 'Begacom TV' has already posted some fragments of the concert on Youtube

    - the Awards
    - the song 'Country in my Genes' from the Broken Circle Breakdown.
    - the song 'If I needed you' from the Broken Circle Breakdown (my personal favorite)

Makes me think they might air the thing again on 'Belgacom TV' like they did two years ago. Can somebody who has Belgacom TV check it out?

dizzy 563!!! Where should we get those?
I think SST where with 8 or 9 and some loose-walking members who didn't show up with the group
    (like composer Matthijs Kieboom)
And of course there's always the SSt/MT doubles as you can see on the FB-picture.

But it was surely a fun meeting.

    Hi Elin ,

The newest edition of the WSA isn't on Belgacom yet , only one or two of the previous editions .
I'm expecting it to pop-up somewhere in November ...
I'll shure keep an eye out for it as always ... wink

    Great news.
Thanks for keeping an eye on it. I have telenet, so I won't be able to see anything.
BTW, was last year's edition ever broadcast? I remember seeing the 10th edition (in a shortened version) on TV, but not last year's.
    Is that also available?

I can't program digicorders from abroad, so maybe one of our Belgian members can record it, and I can get a copy (bashing my eye lashes here...)

PS: Bregt, I believe that's an emoticon the female members would greatly appreciate an eye-lash bashing emoticon
