  1. I only heard the main suite of PARTITION. It never really inspired me to check the rest of it out. (A bit like NOMAD, except there I think I did check the rest out, and got bored.)

LAST SIN-EATER is very good, however. As is McKenzie's THE ULTIMATE GIFT.

They are and what makes it so bad is what made season 1 so bad wink Noisy, messy, unreasonably loud, unfocused middle-eastern typical stuff. But if you did like the first score (which comes as a bit of a surprise to me 'cause you're the first person i know who actually did like it) then you'll probably like this one as well.

It's not a great score, but I thinks it's a nice to have on in the background while wasting time on the net. I enjoy the very non-orchestral sound and instrumentation -- the city market music like "Janus Breaks" and the quieter tracks like "Caesar Reunites With Servilia".

Demetris... you could have cut it your LIST down a bit to maybe... let's say... a nice looking Top 10. At one quick glance it would seem that you have every score written in 2007 on your best and worst list. tongue Narrow it down a bit.

    -Erik-

PS - The Simpson's Movie score was rather interesting and fun listen. Sure, it's Zimmer doing Elfman and Clausen but it's entertaining nonetheless.

Well mate, it's great, i love the score, that's for sure. But when it comes down to Zimmer, i told you before, what really rocks my Zimmer world (!) is stuff like DA VINCI CODE / KING ARTHUR / GLADIATOR / THE THIN RED LINE / TEARS OF THE SUN etc etc and i haven't heard such a score for some time now; when i am asked for this year's top 10, AWE - although a very satisfying listening experience for sure and a totally fun score, it still doesn't immediately pop up in mind.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. If you listen him is because you want Zimmer playing his game, and perhaps At world's End is moree like ZImmer doing a more orchestral approach, So I guess you prefer listen more traditional composers when you need this kind of stuff.

For more I like King Arthur I can't stand to think

    AND THE ABSOLUTE WORST:

    • FLOOD, music by Debbie Wiseman

I wouldn't say that was one of the worst scores of 2007. It was a huge disappointment, but I didn't think it was bad. There were a few good tracks -- "Main Titles" and "Granny's Cottage" -- but Wiseman is capable of much better music.

And I fail to see why so many people are putting POTC 3 on their top 10 lists, I find it a highly entertaining score but grossly overrated. (And please don't start Jordi. Save your posts for the Zimmer thread.)

Maybe because, in wry contrast to most anything else put out in 2007, it IS a highly entertaining score?

FLOOD IS bad. Apart the main theme (the opening requiem) and its repetitions, the rest is childish and messy and the electronics horrendously bad, unreasonably loud and intruding! My full opinion is at http://christodoulides.blogspot.com/200 … flood.html , i don’t want to repeat myself. wink

From what I have listened to so far, I'd say

    - POTC: At World's End, by H. Zimmer.
I couldn't hope for anything more entertaining this year, that's typically the kind of fun I'm always looking for when listening to any film score — so yes, good stuff.

    - Angel, by Ph. Rombi.
Good themes, sweeping, romantic (notably the cue: 'War'). Perfect, even in a night like tonight, when you've just lost someone you love. Some films scores stand as trully recomforting when you need just that, which makes them even more precious. smile Dances With Wolves comes to mind as well.

    - Rescue Dawn, by K. Badelt.
Not a big fan of Badelt in general, as he's often proved disappointing. With this one however, he's just hit the right note and moves me a lot, about as much as Christopher Wong's tender Journey From The Fall. Two wonderful releases.

    Best?....

    Silk - Sakamoto

    Bourne Ultimatum - Powell

    Beowulf - Silvestri

    The Golden Compass - Desplat

And that's about it slant Last year accounts for the least amount of scores I've bought in over 30 years, it's not that I think it was a particularly bad year or anything, it's just that with the exception of a few composers who I'll buy blindly ( Williams, Barry ) I'm much more picky and more likely to watch a film first before deciding to get a specific score ; that, and the fact I haven't had the money to play with to take chances on the odd score here and there like I used to.
