NP : LOVESICK - Philippe Sarde

On the same CD as my above play.

Lovesick was my main reason for playing this, it's just beautiful.

What better way to cap a night off than with a classic? cool cool

Sex with a super hot woman who really wants you.

Meh. I like Newman's music a lot more than I like most women.

This composer is little talked about in these quarters. Great man! Sounds like a soul mate of Georges Delerue. Or Michel Legrand.

A very fine composer and now you've influenced me to play this...

NP : ESCAPE FROM TOMORROW - Abel Korzeniowski

Some of this is very very John Barryesque, as people who know me will know, that is no bad thing in my book. This is very enjoyable.

I agree! I love it all but the track Grand Finale stands out, it's AWESOME, this kind of quality writing is getting rare in the film business.

    Hmmm, KRULL.
    Now let's see.
Unfashionable high strings! Loads of trumpet work! Strong, memorable themes!
Certainly belongs to another era, sadly.
Personally one of the greatest scores ever!
  2. So Timmer, what was the running theme in all those scores you played? I fail to see a commonality other than that you really like all of them.
  3. NP: O Pioneers! (1991) - Bruce Broughton

A score of pure and undiluted beauty.

By the time I played 'Sister Mary' I hadn't even realised I'd ditched my "theme". spin

Anyway, a few more scores would have made it obvious but RUSSIA WITH LOVE-RAMBO-RED OCTOBER.....the theme is Soviet Russians.

  4. NP: The Adventures of Marco Polo - Hugo Friedhofer
Also featuring: The Loger, The Rains of Rachnipur, Seven Cities of Gold
Moscow Symphony Orchestra; William T. Stromberg (Naxos)

This important composer has scored nothing but films I have never heard about. wink Hence this is the only CD of his in my collection.

Make The Best Years Of Our Lives your very next purchase. It's an essential film score and if I'm not mistaken is our own Tom Kiefner's all time favourite score.

I would put this question to Tom on Hugo Friedhofer's own thread where it'll get Tom's attention.

I think the score is superb but I only have the original.

Mine is the original. I've heard good reports about the one you've bought. Tony Bremner has done some great work, particularly with Jerome Moross THE BIG COUNTRY.

Like I said earlier, Tom is the Friedhofer expert and is the man to ask.
