I really hate this film. I get it, I understand it, i love the concept, I love much of the imagery, and I even know why people love it...but it bores me shitless.

They made a film about a self pitying paralympian killer?

    Ha, ha....indeed.

One of the best damn films ever made in the history of cinema. And best scores to boot too.

    I think it's a great film too.

Steven thinks it's boring. I have no problem with that.

I agree that Scott is overrated. He's a great visual director though.

Vangelis score is the greatest (mostly)synth score EVER!

He is. Blade Runner works great as a series of gifs. But I find his actual directing style so static, at least in this film.

It's certainly unique, and gives the film a unique 'colour'. But I can't help but see keyboard cat at his keyboard when I hear the score.

I only ever see Keyboard cat when someone(else) is playing the albums of pretend rock star MEATLOAF.

There's much to admire about Blade Runner (including its score in context) but I'll happily never watch it again.

Well, I've watched it three or four times, so I don't think there's much to be gained from watching it again. I said there was much to admire about it (including its score in context), so perhaps that's what you thought was mad.

No, it was just a reference to a number of opinions being expressed over a multitude of threads right now that bewilder me.

I've seen BLADE RUNNER maybe 30 times over the years, analyzed it to death in my thesis and it STILL continues to give me pleasure and new elements each and every time.

And here I was, starting to heap praise on you for taking the controversial stand that maybe Blade Runner isn't the second coming -a view I have long held but never have dared speak for fear of a geek fatwah-.... and there ya go spoiling it by lauding a film that consists of one third vaguely interesting concept, one third excellent scifi film, and one third incredibly boring, overrated semi-deep semi-existential video effects!
    Ugh!

Oh, and Meat Loaf IS the second coming!

Nah, I understand that. And I sort of agree. It's not a film I'd recommend to everyone. But Kubrick fascinates me, especially 2001. It was just so "ahead of its time", as the saying goes. Sure, some of the scenes last too long, and I generally skip the primate scene at the start. (I get it: monkeys, monolith, evolution. Doesn't need to be 20 minutes long!) But the lingering shots in space I have far more patience for, as this is a rare case where I can enjoy the AUDIOVISUALS purely on their own merits. I love it! Even if it is semi-deep and semi-existential.

The opening is one of the best parts of the movie, IMO. Slow is good! I really like to have it on BluRay.

    Philomena

Another film I don't think I need to see again, but it's very good (and extremely sad). But really - wow, what a film composer Alexandre Desplat is. I quite liked the score on album but in the film it's nothing short of amazing, what it does, perfect spotting and beautiful music.

But few points for how Alex North was treated if I remember.
