All the King's Men - James Horner

I don't care if "Give Me the Hammer and I'll Nail 'Em Up!" uses old material, I LOVE it!!!!
  1. It's funny, with 'Give me the hammer', everyone always talks about the ripoff of BRAVEHEART which last for about 20 seconds at the end. Listening to BOBBY FISCHER recently, it occurred to me that the first 4 minutes of the cue is pretty much straight out of that score. wink Good cue though, for a pretty awful film.

NP: Life as a House (Isham)

Cheesy/sentimental as anything, but quite enjoyable.

    NP - Random - My MP3 Player

It's surprising how much music I ''know'' but can't identify when I don't look at what's playing!

I'm glad someone else has that problem too!

  3. Isn't that what our Guess-the-Score game is all about? wink

    NP: Kinsey (Carter Burwell)

One of Burwell's best. He was unlucky not to get an Oscar nomination for this. A biopic score for a reasonably well-regarded film. Then again, KINSEY did not feature that strong as the Oscars.

Yes, but there's a massive potential for it to include scores you've never heard which makes it kind of unfair, especially to casual listeners. It's more fun to play with yourself (and you can take that in any way you want). tongue
  4. I meant I often have that sensation of hearing something I know I've heard but can't remember from where in the game. Not so much on my ipod. Though it's 30 gig, usually it only gets on the pod if I like it enough to want to carry it around with me.

Batman Begins | Hans Zimmer & JNH

Very much in the mood for this one at the moment, and very enjoyable when you are. I'm not anticipating anything particularly different from the new score, so at least I'm not so likely to be disappointed.

NP : MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS - John Barry

Yes I am playing this again. It's breathtakingly gorgeous, I can't thank INTRADA enough for this little masterpiece.

A deserved Oscar nominee, and one of only two mominations where Barry didn't win.

NP : HOWARD THE DUCK - John Barry

Cool laid back jazz with some great dramatic moments ( Dark Overlord ), a very short score but like my last play not a second is wasted, I'd drool like Homer over donut world if this got a legit release.

Obviously the action stuff is by Lorne Balfe.

But the ghostly stuff with davey jones theme, and the dramatic string statement is very touching. Reminds me to some dramatic string moments from Spirit.

Really...At world's End is a classic of fantasy-adventure-surrealism ( make some joke if you want..)
  5. NP: KUNDUN - Philip Glass

My first exposure to Glass in a film. I find it hard to consider any of his subsequent scores, good as they often are, better than this. That possibly says more about my love of the film than about how good the music is.

If I close my eyes I almost can see the snow falling.

I don't know if it's this or The Village my favourite Howard Score ( Signs in a tie second place)

Woot! The theme from third track (But Not Through My Realm) is fantastic! Very catchy.
Ver enjoyable score, snce it isn't very long either, which defenitely makes it a strong listen.

One of the most approachable scores I've heard and a perfect one to start with for someone who's not familiar with Powell's work.
