No reason to be ashamed. It's one of the most celebrated scores of the 90s, and a gateway into film music for a myriad of people. It's easily in my top 10/top 20 list of all time.
    I am extremely serious.

It was certainly one of my gateway drugs. I will never tire of this score. It's MV at its best (along with Twister).

    The Rocketeer James Horner

Does anyone have certain themes or melodies in their head pretty much 24/7? This is one of those themes for me.

  1. Lost: The Final Season - Michael Giacchino

I remain a big fan of this pared-down, dissonant, heartfelt musical world. The Mickey Mousing gets old, but with so many knockout cues and thematic interplay, there's always something to pay attention to.

    The Lost World John Williams

This expanded edition is incredible. The missing elements from the already great original album reveal a truly great score. The island theme is more prominent, and the extra percussion-heavy action music elevates its entertainment factor. The crisp recording on that percussion also helps.

One of the best action scores ever written.

  2. CIVILIZATION VI - Geoff Knorr, et al.

I think the concept for this score is great, with a fantastic execution to match. I've probably said enough about it before. I just really enjoy this one.
  3. NP: Divide - Chris Tilton

Strong game score from Tilton. Mixing tense orchestral writing with appealing synths, it's my first score for 2017 that's got my attention.

Though I've neglected this year's scores so far with being knee-deep in the best of 2016.

Edmund, ALIEN is one of my top 3 films of all time. smile
    I am extremely serious.
  8. NP: MORIBITO: GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT season 2 - Naoki Sato

This is MUCH less enjoyable than the first season. There are some really grating/annoying tracks on here.
  9. NP: Quo Vadis (1951/2012) - Miklos Rosza

The glorious Tadlow re-recording. Can't wait for Ben-Hur.

    Volker
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  10. NP: The River - Virgil Thomson

Americana mixed with a slew of familiar melodies for this score for a documentary from 1938.

NP: The Golden Age of Danish Pornography (Volume 2) - Alex Puddu

An album of new music written to "recreate the sound of vintage hardcore short films from early 70s". Nice!

    BRILLIANT!
((Not just the music, but to have an actual title like that in one's library...I should purchase this immediately!)

I'm sure I'm not alone in really not fully understanding another rerecording. It may be the most recorded/represented score in history!
That said, I'll still likely buy it. smile

I found out there's also a score-only album. Fantastic! What a joy to listen to. The Credits piece is fabulous.

I gave this several chances -- both song and score album -- but it really failed to impress me. One or two marginally decent cues, but overall not really my cup of tea. I'm hopefully seeing the movie in a couple of weeks (it premieres here at the end of February, I think) to see what all the fuss is about.

I was a bit disappointed by the movie itself, not as spectacular as I had expected, seeing all the praise it gets. However, the music is so catchy, several of the themes people were humming when they came out of the theatre. Also a colleague here was humming it after he heard the Another Day of Sun on the radio. When did that happen the last time.

But it's a sun-drenched masterpiece! The most romantic film of the year! The best film of the year! Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are simply superb! Effervescent and effortlessly cool! Sheer perfection! It will be a classic of the future! I left the cinema feeling euphoric! Achingly romantic... a spellbinding masterpiece!

Jeez, get with the program Bregt.

The Credits piece is, I believe, an instrumental of "Another Day of Sun". If you ask me, the album with the songs contains all you really need from that work (it has all the most substantial score cues on it as well).

Yes, this is the Another Day of Sun instrumental version. I has more piano and less percussion. IT SWINGS MY LEGS (below the desk I'm working on. No one is noticing).

  13. I love that score. Both albums are fun. I do think the song album has all the highlights, but the perfect playlist would have include that credits piece (it makes for matching bookends), and the "Late for the date" version of the love theme. That's my favorite score of 2016. I just haven't heard music that happy, that memorable, or that head-sticky in a long time.
