    Completly agree.

    NP: Hoist the colours suite

Probably the most exiting action stuff and the most Zimmerish thing from zimmer on this decade.

Before I will play : Aliens (horner)

I don't know if it's enough complex, but being the movie one of my all time favourites this score rocks!
  1. Thanks, Jordi.

    Michael,

    QUEST FOR A HEART
is coming out on December but i don't know any specific date yet. MONGOL is not announced yet.

Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. And yes. I do prefer Tokyo Drift to AVP 2. TD has Neela's theme which is rather addictive, though really, nothing much more.

Can you post the titles of your selectio here?

    NP:Predator (Silvestri)

I rather prefer Tyler's re interpretation of this sound.

    Another overrated Silvestri score.

Nautilus - look out. Erik will have your fingers for that! wink

PREDATOR is a great film though. I've never heard the music outside the film, so I don't know whether it's a good album or not. I do like it in the film though.

IMHO, this is one of Silvestri's finest efforts! Top 5 candidate for sure.

It's a score that needs more attention than I would have thought.
I remember being slightly disappointed at very first listen, but -as happens more often- I put it away for a few months and then revisited it, and was very pleasantly surprised how intelligent and invasive it is emotionally. It really demands your attention and will not let go.

Let it stew a while, Jordi and try it later on down the road.
This score is like a fine wine.
It needs to age and be properly decanted before it has a chance to grow on you.
'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn
  7. Rhythmically it is intelligent, thematically, well it is a rather disjointed effort. Not the easiest listening experience, I would say. Haven't heard it for years though.

HARRY GREGSON WILLIAMS - Man on Fire

I know this is a score that doesn't have many fans. But it has always been a very touching and sentimental experience for me (same applies to the movie as well) especially the vocal tracks like "una palabra" which are really moving. I am not in the greatest of moods either tonight and this is the perfect listen.

NP: Lust, Caution - Alexandre Desplat

This has failed to do anything for me over three complete listens. Well, I have a little time to myself this afternoon before dinner so I thought I'd give this score one more shot. Lovely themes, but nothing that really tugs at me emotionally.

Not an amazing listening (I know the iTunes release though) experience, but amazing in-film score and I love Gregson-Williams' dramatic string writing. One of his best scores, I'd dare to say. And one of my favorite action thrillers. And in this case this may be important.

Completely agree. For me it's up there at my 3 favorite HGW scores, along with with SPY GAME and KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (the latter having been ENORMOUSLY elevated to my appreciation after i listened to the 3-disc brilliant recording sessions' version, before they killed it in editing).
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  11. And still you didn't respond to my most recent anti-Tyler arguments biggrin

I am giving that score (AVP: R) a listen in a while, though I'm not expecting much (it's nothing growing on me). I do think of giving it a rather critical, maybe even harsh review. Especially that I want to compare it with other Alien series scores (definitely with Horner and Goldsmith, not sure about Frizzell though if Jordi is talking about a thematic rip I must see into it) and Silvestri's first Predator score. To see what is a homage (I'd call Coprocloakia's reference to Horner's Main Title and its twonote trumpet/flute motif) and what is something that you'd call a cheap copy and sadly that's where I would put Taking Sides. It *has* a lot in common with Horner's underscore.

Now a little rant not against Tyler but a certain custom. Why the f*ck do people release rather boring underscore tracks often as the longest? Case in point, Interpreter's first track! 8 minutes of... nothing...
