    I thought the same, but after "Casino Royale" I have my doubts.
    Anyway, I´d LOVE to see Powell attached to the next Bond project.
    Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you

    I agree. I mean I've loved/liked every one of Arnold's Bond scores, but it's time he passed the baton on to another composer.


    In fact, Powell is the ONLY composer I can see taking it over.

    I'll add Giacchino to the mix. Some of his Alias music has a very Bondish flavour. And then of course there's The Incredibles. biggrin

    PS - I disagree that Arnold has said all he has to say with the Bond series. While Die Another Day was a step in the wrong direction, the re-birth of the franchise with Casino Royale produced an inspiring score from Arnold and was one of 2006's best scores. I can't wait to hear what he will produce with the next film.

    Overall a rather unexceptional album which could easily form a trilogy with American Beauty and Erin Brockovich, but the softer material heard in One Kiss and Sleepover is really quite lovely and haunting, with typical T. Newman melodies and moods. Good chill-out stuff.

    Good suggestions about the Bond composers, but i'd personally take Giacchino over the proposed ones any day.

    Casino Royale is kick-ass and Arnold has proven he has a lot of new, adrenaline-pumped and fresh stuff to offer to the franchise.

    "Berlin Foot Chase" from Supremacy. Those chopping strings performing the Bourne motif. The textures in that cue are outstanding. And the way it builds and builds upon itself with added layers of percussion... that's a wonderful composition and the best of the series. But "Tangiers" from Ultimatum is a very close second with "Bim Bam Smash" in third.

    I liked Casino Royale but let's be honest, take away the nods to Barry and it's just another generic action score.

    Your right about Giacchino though, good choice, I shouldn't have forgotten him.

    Disagree completely. The big action set pieces were in the Arnold style but contained a lot of new and interesting ideas. Miami International... especially the the latter half of that cue is something pretty special.

    Batman | Danny Elfman

    As much as I enjoy it, the main theme seems a bit too upbeat and not dark enough for the character. Still, it's Elfman's best superhero score to date and very enjoyable from start to finish (particularly "Main Titles", "Descent into Mystery" and "Main Theme Reprise"). I just think Shirley Walker's Batman theme just seems like the perfect music representation of the character, just dark enough and seems more Gothic than Elfman's two Batman scores and no power anthem retread by Zimmer.

    I think it very dark and gothic but it also needs a bit of a heroic touch since he is a comic book hero!!!

    I'd agree that Arnold still has what it takes to score the next Bond movie. "African Rundown" was probably my favorite action cue of the year with the excellent percussion. Great driving music. He did a wonderful job of incorporating the "You Know My Name" melody into the score, using it as a pusedo Bond theme until the big reveal at the end. The James Bond theme is one of my favorite themes of all time, I can't get enough of it and the fact that I didn't miss it in Casino Royale says something about Arnold's writing. His scores are some of my favorites, and I'd be dissapointed if they went with someone else. Less if that someone else was Powell or Giacchino.

    My top three Bourne cues are the same, but in a different order; Tangiers, Bim Bam Smash, then Berlin Foot Chase.

    For me, 'Tangiers' sums up perfectly what the Bourne scores are about in one cue. 'Bim Bam Smash' is more of a digression from the rest of the score, so as much as I love it I prefer 'Tangiers'. 'Berlin Foot Chase' and 'Tangiers' are pretty much two versions of the same thing. (I'd love to have all of the Tangiers music from Ultimatum.)
  1. 'Waterloo' is my favourite Bourne cue, then 'Tangiers', 'The Drop', 'Berlin Foot Chase' and 'Bim-Bam Smash'.

    Even though it stands on it's own as one of the few uplifting cues, I also love Goa (from Supremacy), and I've had a time in which I was really addicted to that cue. lick

    It's not really one of my 'favorites', though, since it doesn't have enough Bourne-elements to make it representative for the scores. I'd probably also go for Tangiers or Waterloo; everything I love from Bourne, but then taken to 'the next level'. Pure exhileration!

    And by the way, I prefer To The Roof over Berlin Foot Chase, now that cue contains all the brilliant stringwork and build-up! (aren't you guys confusing Berlin for this one?) lick

    I really must listen to all the Bourne scores again. I have them all. Heard them all. Seen the first 2 films.
    But I've never been bowled over by the music. I'm sure I'm just missing something here!

    They're Bond scores for the 21st century. They make you feel like Bourne just as I'm sure the Barry Bond scores made its listeners feel like Bond. Well, that's what I like about the scores anyway!

    Absolutely punk I just started playing it to get something awesome and loud, but I also noticed a lot of other, very interesting things going on. The brass-work is amazing!
