I dislike some things...Like the "bad guys" motif, the use of the synth and some action stuff. And the Hungarian opera State performance is...well, weird. (Dammed some of the best Goldsmith scores are played by this orchestra! What about King solomon's, Rambo III , Island of Streams or Lionheart By the National Philarmonic?)

But there are some great parts, of course. King Richard, Failed Knight or the love themes are great.

Anyone knows the chronological order from the tracks of the 2 cd realeases?? thanks.

(One thing is sure, I never will watch the movie. I don't want another krull)

Island in the Stream performance is really good imo. I dont remember well about King Solomon. However I agree about Rambo and especially Lionheart's performance. Really weak sauce, unconvincing. Why The Hungarian orchestra has been chosen? Lack of budget? A shame.

    NP:First Blood

Probably Rambo is Goldsmith's best saga, more coherent in themes than "the Omen" and surely more inspired than Star Trek.

Why Godsmith had to die before Ubeda or Madrid Filmusic festivals?? he could enjoy so much this events..

Lucky me I saw a Goldsmith concert in Barcelona!

NP: The Tudors - Trevor Morris
Surprising variety of music in this score. Some of it is quite pleasant and not at all the stereotypical Remote Control stuff. The last track is almost like a more contemporary version of Promentary from Last of the Mohicans.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

In my opinion, he's not getting enough assignments. Maybe Brad Bird ought to hire him to score his next Pixar film rather than Giacchino...

The Tales From Beyond is a combination of cool jazz and some twilight zone, outer limits type material. The theme is noteworthy.
    listen to more classical music!

Which, of course, was a direct lift from Dougie Maclean´s "The Gael", so that should be named as the more appropriate reference... wink But it´s nice what Morris came up with, I agree.

Such magnificence. 'The Leaving / The Search' is so beautiful.

NP: The Water Horse - Howard
After seeing the film and understanding what story the music is telling...I now consider this score to be pure genius. Like King Kong and Blood Diamond it took be 5 or 6 listens and the film to fully appreciate it. Howard has become an absolute master of subtlety.

Played last night: THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES - James Horner

Well... The thing is; when composers dig up old themes of theirs, or steal themes from others, they usually feel the urge to tamper with them. Change the tempo. The last notes. Make them slightly different, so we do recognise them, but they feel annoyingly f*cked up. But, with the use of his Casper theme... it's completely the same, each and every note! So does this make it less irritating? Yes... and no. I just couldn't listen to the theme without feeling slightly annoyed, despite liking the usage of it (some excellent reditions).

Overall, Spiderwick really feels like the evil twin brother of Casper, with not just the use of the lullaby-theme, I also counted two other subthemes from Casper (although they are tampered with, they are still recognisable) and several tricks 'n things from that early score (the cello from All Is Lost from The New World also makes a cameo appearance, btw).

Which is not to say I didn't like the score. Although I wasn't completely swept away with it, I liked 'the sound', and certain moments were really beautiful. It just lacks a sound of its own, a certain special theme, or trick, or something that makes you want to go back to this one (apart from that weird motive with that odd instrument).

NP:Indiana Jones and the temple of the Doom

Im with Indy fever too thanks to my new DVD trilogy Pack! I can't wait to see Ford in the big Screen with his hat!

Temple of DOom as a movie is silly, but it's pretty damn Entertaining! About the score, if my favourite one without the movie, but in the movie I find it a little bit annoying, Williams using the character themes too much and so obviously!

Anyway...Slave Childres track is fantastic. This Rozsa influences are great, and I love this Horn thrills when indy is fighting in the Rock Machine (??)

NP: The Water Horse - Howard
One of the things I love about this score is that underneath the obvious Celtic elements are some techniques that harken back to Howard's early 90s scores like The Man In The Moon and Prince of Tides. Especially the romantic-yet-subdued string passages. They sort of passed by uninterestingly the first time I heard the score, but the more I listen to it, the more beautiful they seem.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Sure, followed very close by the End Credits suite (even if all the score sounds like an extension of his work in "Spy Game").
