    In all seriousness, hitting things helps.
    I remember having to have to teach without a voice at one time, so I just devised a powerpoint presentation for the basics and included group excercises including presentations.
    Whenever the noise got out of hand though I used a big wooden ruler i brought along to slap any table nearby REALLY loudly.
    Scared the shit out of 'em. biggrin

    Best thing though obviously is...call in sick! dizzy

    I can't call in sick unfortunately.I have been working for less than a month and I there is nobody else to teach english.The noise thing surely works.I throw the books I'm holding really hard on the desk and they usually stop.I wish I could use techonology too but this is going to be possible after Xmas.For the time being I just have to improvise and hurt.

    Stavi, take a break from all of this during the weekend and PLEASE make sure (out of own experience i talk) not to speakat all during it, so you'll recover. Or talk VERY, VERY REALLY smoothly and calmly if you have to but remember NOT to (i repeat NOT) whisper, that will only make things worse. Take a lot of the lemon tea with honey thingy, lots of warm drings, none cold, no icecubes and all, no coca cola soft drinks with gas in them and as less coffee as possible. All doctors' advices i keep vividly echoing in my head. Oh and ask your doctor about the BETAISODONA iodine mouthwash gargle, believe me it does wonders but you shouldn't use it more than 2-3 times per month.

    News on my voiceless situation.I'm currently enjoying a cup of lemon tea following my dear Demetris advice.I'm voiceless right now.It was a tough day today since I had to work for 5 45minute lessons on the row with 5 minute break to go from one class to the other and the humidity was at its pick since it is raining all day today.The same schedule for tomorrow which means woe to me!Thank God the week ends tomorrow and that I don't work on Monday! smile

    And my left ear is blocked. Just like my right ear was a while ago. It's not as bad as it was, but it's taking ages to clear. Eagle Eye didn't help it improve. wink

    I presume you use an inhaler? People can have varying degrees of Asthma, is yours mild or more serious?

    Nah this time it doesn't hurt (luckily). The nurse at work reckons it's just because my sinuses are blocked.

    Then again, she wasn't a sexy nurse.

    If I remember correctly, sinus passages don't fill up with gunk, it's a narrowing of the arteries that causes the pain. ( please someone correct me if I'm wrong? )
