    I grew up in a haunted house.
    Seriously.

    Shadows moving on an empty balcony in the middle of the night.
    Crying and thumping sounds in a locked built in closet.
    And the best one: footsteps approaching in the dark (creaking floarboards getting closer).

    Luckily I appear to be more or less immune: I never felt anything but a definite sense of unease.
    Most of my family are grey before their time though.

    Guess there's something to be said for being an insensitive bastard.

    In Laos, when we were trying to fall asleep in the house during that home stay, there was this odd sound that came closer and closer. There I was, laying on the floor, covered with a bed spray North Europeans wouldn't even use in winter, a bit scared of that sound, sweating all over the place and trying to get rid of the flies and other 6-legged animals that were flying around under the mosquito net. I flashed on the pocket light, and I saw nothing, but the sound reappeared after some minutes. Eventually, the sound exploded into the nightly cringe of a cat.

    I've never been so uneased.

    That's what you get a LOT in Asia as well as the lower parts of Latin America (Guatemala and the like): the cats there become really active at night and make some truly bloodcurdling noises.

    Luckily they are extremely skittish and way more scared of us than we (should be) of them.

    I've never really bought that Savage-Elfman thing, because if you take away the glasses and the goatee, they really look nothing like each other.
