JAMES HORNER

Horner can do darkness, of course, but not in the kind of ominous, all-encompassing, "carpet" kind of way that Shore does -- something he's picked up after decades of working with David Cronenberg, no doubt. So in that area, they would be quite different. But all the 'magic' stuff, I'm sure Horner could do even more spinechillingly than Shore. Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows? Why are we doing this? Why are we here? Where am I? Hello?I am extremely serious. -

The Lord of the Rings is the one project where I'd be curious to hear pretty much every film composer's take on it. I wish I somehow had access to all the parallel universes where Horner, Kilar, Elfman, Williams, Goldsmith - hell, even Zimmer - had a shot at it, so I could listen to them all and compare. It seems like a project that practically couldn't help getting exceptional music out of whoever was attached. -

He's held back on the pretentious track names somewhat, but he still insists on spoilers. -

"Cheerio A'ba" that's almost a misdirection instead of a spoiler...I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

He, he...Timmer's cockney version is the preferred, no doubt!
On a serious note, I'm really looking forward to this. Everything points to this being an instant 'Horner classic'.I am extremely serious. -

Physical release of "Wolf Totem" now available to pre-order on amazon.fr:
http://www.amazon.fr/Dernier-Loup-James … rnier+loup
Release date got postponded to March 4 2015, though. But after about 2 years since the last release of a new Horner score this doesn't do any difference! Can't wait! :-) -

They are releasing this digitally - only in France, Switzerland and Benelux. Releases to follow in other countries when (if) the film is released in them.
Which seems to me like a surefire way of guaranteeing that a fair number of people who would have bought the album had they been able to will instead try to acquire it by illegitimate means.
I cannot understand record labels sometimes. Is there any logic in operation here at all? -

According to Milan's Soundcloud page both CD and digital album will be released on February 23th:
Date de sortie physique et digitale : 23 février 2015 -

Yeah - but only in those territories. I'm sure the rest of us will be able to order the CD as an import, but I'd much rather buy it as a download and don't understand why that isn't being offered as an option. -

I like it a lot. It's been too long since the last Horner score. Hearing a new score by him just feels like coming home. I get the same reaction from new scores by John Williams. There's just something so familiar about their style and orchestral sensibilities. I love hearing new music from either of them. This year is going to be great with so many new Horner scores. I sincerely hope this one will get a release in the U.S. soon! -

Fun fact: James Horner is only 10 years older than John Powell.
That doesn't seem right. -

Nice orchestrations, but the cue leaves me cold. I barely remember a lick of it after hearing it.The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else. -

This whole young-composers-becoming-old is new to me. It means I'm getting old. -

That's life as ol' blue eyes says.
I bought BRAINSTORM on LP when it was released and the blurb on the back says something about Horner not even being 30 yet writing that music, 'scary' it ends with.

Definitely Horner but he sounds more inspired this time around and the orchestrations seem fresher. I liked it. -
